Through the lenses of tribes, tourists, scientists, and activists, Millgate explores what happens when the wild tries to make its way—with us in the way. The grizzly all but disappeared before the West changed its approach to endangered species in the 1970s. Now we must change again, as this recovered—but deadly—animal rebounds and new threats arise.

Outdoor journalist Kris Millgate is a bold storyteller, but she wasn’t born brave. Millgate grew up painfully shy and afraid of beards. She learned to shed those tendencies for a career in journalism. As producer, writer, videographer, photographer, certified drone pilot, editor and gear hauler, Millgate engages in every project with inspiring enthusiasm and unmatched intensity.
