À propos de cet audio

New York Times Bestseller

A victim of her mother’s Munchausen by proxy and child abuse survivor, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s unique and controversial case made headlines across the world.

Now, she’s finally free to start living her life on her terms—and to tell her own story as only she can.

Forced to use a wheelchair in public and endure a lifetime of faux illness, fraud, and exploitation, Gypsy was subjected not only to her mother’s medical, physical, and emotional abuse, but deprived of childhood milestones. Prevented from attending school or socializing, Gypsy’s formative years were defined by pain and isolation.

After serving eight years in prison for the role she played in her mother Dee Dee’s murder, Gypsy is embracing her fresh start—and reminding all of us that it’s never too late.

In this revelatory, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful memoir, Gypsy shares the painful realities she grew up with and the details of her life that only she knows, including:

• The abusive cycle that began with Dee Dee’s abuse by her father

• Gypsy’s fear that continued unnecessary surgery would leave her truly disabled

• How she coped with guilt and accepted responsibility for her mother’s death

• Memories of her final days in prison

• What she learned upon reviewing her own medical records for the first time

• How it felt to finally see her family again as her authentic self

Featuring new facts about Gypsy’s life that she previously kept private, My Time to Stand offers an unprecedented look at the real Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, proudly embarking on her ongoing journey to recovery and self-discovery.

I had been waiting for the opportunity to hear Gypsy's side of the story. Her POV. After she came out of prison, she blew up so quickly and in the blink of an eye everything changed. why? I have listened to the book twice. Hearing her voice narrate her perception of her life makes it difficult to not hold her own words against her. A few contradictions happen in the book. And its ok, because its her POV. She didn't have a regular upbringing, it would be unfair to ask her to behave in a regular way instantly. She has a long way to go. This book made me realize Gypsy is probably not operating at her actual age, but at a much younger age where she is probably stuck due to unresolved trauma. She could also be struggling with BPD. This is just my opinion. This book isnt for kids to read as it has lots of sexual content. The book paints a clear image of how she perceives the role she played in unaliving her mother but still doesnt give us the why.... why would that be the only way out? Why did her mother HAVE to die that way. We will probably never know. This book feels like a resume and slight correction of the movies and documentaries that came out about her story, with a few extra details.

Not what I expected -

This book is not overly well written making it hard listen. There are some pretty graphic points that could be triggering to the listener. This felt like a six hour journal entry that was both positive and negative, Gypsy has a lot of healing to do. Overall I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend.

Positives: I appreciate that Gypsy read her own book and that this was clearly her perspective and not someone else’s.

okay so idk if she got her GED in jail but like she mentioned alot she getting past like a pre-K level and you can definitely tell she didn't have much say in the writing because it is very good for someone who only has a pre k level of school but her pov is different she does contradict alot of things she's said in the documenty well she was still in jail and after in interviews and podcast so I'm just really confused on what actually happened because she does say one thing in the book but another thing in these documenty, interviews and podcast maybe she needs to be called out for changing her story

I have been following gypsies story for quite some time and was really looking forward to this book coming out. Most of the information in this book is stuff that I already knew from news sources, TikTok, Facebook, etc.. I was really hoping that there would be more meat to this book. However, it is very evident that Gypsy lacks writing skills at least for writing a memoir.
As someone who is very interested in psychology, gypsy story is very fascinating to me. Her story is very very tragic as a child and it is very unfortunate that this was the outcome. We can all sit here and say that we would tell someone about it or just stand up and walk or whatever but we were not in her place and from what I understand, her mother was very abusive, and I can respect the fear. Gypsy would’ve had as a child standing up to her very own mother who has brainwashed and mentally abused her so deeply. I hope that gypsy finds peace and is able to work on her trauma. I also very much hope that with gypsy having a child now that she does not suffer the same mental health condition as her mother did.

I really wanted to like this

Well narrated. Complex story, very interesting. Gypsy does a great job of communicating the shocking reality of her childhood. And how complex it can be to love your abuser, even now.

Intriguing
