À propos de cet audio
He's not sure he's ever been real. She's not sure she'll ever be whole again.
Beckett Davis has been many things: reliable, likeable, on track to be the most accurate kicker in professional football history, and multiple-time winner of made-up awards, like "pro-athlete with the most beautiful smile."
He's also spent a lifetime shouldering responsibilities that don't belong to him, but he doesn't like to think about that. Until a missed kick makes him one of the most hated people in the city and lands him doing damage control as a volunteer in his least favourite place: a hospital.
But it's where he meets her.
Greer Roberts deals in logic and absolutes. She spends her days performing surgery and staying behind carefully constructed boundaries that keep what's left of her safe, even though she's not sure how either of those things makes her feel anymore. There is one thing she's absolutely certain of, though: she doesn't date. So it doesn't matter that a downtrodden Beckett Davis ends up in the same elevator as her, and, in a moment of weakness, she invites him to volunteer with her patients.
She might see right through him, and he might understand her in a way that no one else ever has, but they're just business acquaintances.
Until they're not. And nothing scares her more than that.
©2025 Haley Warren (P)2025 Podium AudioThis is the first book by Warren that I have read but it most definitely won’t be my last. I love her writing style and I got so lost in this one. My absolute favourite thing about Near Miss is that the events of chapter 31 and 39 are given their own moment. It’s such a powerful writing choice, and when you read/listen to this book you will understand what I mean. What also stood out for me is how a characteristic of one of the MCs that usually drives me up the wall in most books had the opposite effect on me here. I usually can’t stand when an MC (Greer in this case) can’t get out of their own way and they partake in so much self sabotage... but the way it happens in Near Miss actually had me rooting for Greer so hard. It was legit, so refreshing. And Beckett Davis… He. Is. Everything.
I think it’s obvious, but I highly recommend Near Miss... and I can’t wait to jump into another Haley Warren novel.
A beautiful and emotional read
