À propos de cet audio

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A “compulsively readable” (Diana Gabaldon) novel teeming with love, betrayal, and religious conflict that brings ancient Egypt to vivid life, from the author of Cleopatra’s Daughter and Maria

“Meticulously researched and richly detailed . . . an engrossing tribute to one of the most powerful and alluring women in history.”—The Boston Globe

Nefertiti and her younger sister, Mutnodjmet, have been raised in a powerful family that has provided wives to the rulers of Egypt for centuries. Ambitious, charismatic, and beautiful, Nefertiti is destined to marry Amunhotep, an unstable young pharaoh. It is hoped that her strong personality will temper the young ruler’s heretical desire to forsake Egypt’s ancient gods.

From the moment of her arrival in Thebes, Nefertiti is beloved by the people, but she fails to see that powerful forces are plotting against her husband’s reign. The only person brave enough to warn the queen is her younger sister, yet remaining loyal to Nefertiti will force Mutnodjmet into a dangerous political game—one that could cost her everything she holds dear.

" Nefertiti is a fascinating window into the past, a heroic story with a very human heart. Compulsively readable!" (Diana Gabaldon)
"Though sometimes big events are telegraphed, Moran...gets the details just right, and there are still plenty of surprises in an epic that brings an ancient world to life." ( Publishers Weekly)

This book gave me an invite into the queens life as a ruler. I never new the full story of Queen Neferttitis life. I would recomment this read.

Love this book

It really gave me a sense of the grand history of an Egyptians Queen. Though it’s fiction it was enjoyable to hear a probable story of a woman who is known simply for her beauty.

Really enjoyed this

I loved this book. I was gripped the whole time. The story through Nefertiti's sister's eyes was great and I felt a great closeness to her and related. The whole story of Nefertiti and her rise to power along with her husband was told beautifully even though at times Nefertiti was depicted as such a whiny brat then again, it's always hard to for me to grasp that these young kings/queens are only teenagers if you think about it.
I was sad it was over and wish I could know more about Muhti and the rest of the life transcribed but that just means I can read the sequel, "the heretic queen"!

Sad it's Finished

I've read this in book form over a thousand times. Since becoming a parent, I haven't had time to read the actual book. This was a fantastic audiobook to listen to and, in a way, made me experience the story all over again. I would 100% recommend this book if you're into Ancient Egyptian Non-Fiction. I hope one day Michelle goes back to writing Ancient Egyptian Non-Fiction.

One of my favorites....

This book lends itself very well to being read aloud. It has been one of the best listens since joining Audible. The performer did a great job. Historical fiction at its best.

Great story telling.

I LOVE historical novels; I LOVE authors who flesh out the possible reality of the personalities and lives of historical figures; the stuff that we could never, ever know; day-to-day lives. But.....I am profoundly disappointed with books that are written about historical figures - especially the wonderfully exotic ones like Tutankhamun and Nefertiti - and the facts that are absolutely known are completely disregarded or changed altogether. I love all things Ancient Egyptian and it was difficult for me to get through this book with all the glaring changes to historical fact. :(

Why?

Amazingly told and beautifully written, what an amazing powerful interpretation of old Egypt. Loved every second of it. The narrator Did a phenomenal job. Highly recommend this title for any lovers of historic novels. What a book!

I will preface this review by saying that I am a huge fan of Akhenaten and the Amarna period. This is not a book for fans of either. It takes a lot of liberties, especially about their personalities and deaths. The writer states that there’s a lot of evidence to support these theories, but there really isn’t. She bases all evidence on a few pieces of artwork that have been found. It’s the writers interpretation which is fine, but it should be noted as such. I didn’t hate the book. I found it somewhat enjoyable if a bit formulaic. It sort of read like a soap opera set in ancient Egypt. I did enjoy the main character, Nefertiti’s sister. It does have some historical accuracies, and in the end I did find myself starting to care for some of the characters. For a casual lover of Egyptology and somebody newly studying it, it would probably be an enjoyable book. Again, keeping in mind that it is not historically accurate. There are just simply no way of knowing the things that it asserts.

Not for fans of Akhenaten
