The first time I took a man's life, I knew there'd be no going back, no normal existence in the cards for me. Instead of walking away, I climbed a mountain of bodies and created my own destiny by forming The Alliance. And I was fine with that, content enough to carry on.
Until I stepped through those open doors, and into her life.
I should've walked away. Should've gone right back out the door I came through. But I didn't. And now her life is in danger. That's the thing about being a bad man. I'll happily paint the streets red to protect what's mine.
And Payton is mine. Whether she knows it or not.

Funny meet cute…just a bit creepy
I love how unhinged Nero is for his women.
I love that there’s no third act breakup.
Not as much of a fan of Peyton being a bit of a doormat.
I love SJ Tilly’s book. I’ve read them all. This one stands out to me. Not a fav, but definitely memorable

Delightfully amusing
A lot of serious subject matter. But their interactions, especially later on, made me smile SO MANY times. This novel has a good balance of dark themes and light conversations, with characters that are super easy to feel for. (Easy to hate the bad guys and easy to love the good guys.)

Loved Nero and Payton Love Story
Payton's innocence and a past with trauma Nero is a Mafia hero who knows she is the one and does what they do when they know what they want and need. One night, while watching TV with the sliding door open, Nero walks in and makes himself comfortable. After this, things between them change.
Payton is a virgin, and Nero relishes being her first and, most likely, her last. He takes her back to his place, even knowing it could be dangerous for her. After trying to keep her from his world other draw her in and decides to take her to his place and even though she is taken he gets her back and keeps her making sure nobody ever takes her from him again. Nero so far is my favourite mafia hero.
I loved this story of Payton and Nero. Now on to the next book with King, Dom, and finally Hans.

not my favorite
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 - I bought this because I really enjoyed other books by this author and had high hopes.
It was a little disappointing but likely it's a me thing. I wasn't a fan of either MC but I am still looking forward to King's book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 - Narration was not bad but also not great. Both narrators were new to me and they did not grow on me as most new voices do.

found my new favorite narrators
it's always easier for be to do audiobooks if I like the voices and this one was great! both narrators did a great job at portraying these 2 very different and opposite characters. he's rough and possessive, she's soft and sweet. the contrast in the voices was perfect.
on the the story.
He's a very bad man, looking for an escape from the cops so when he sees her balcony door wide open he takes that opportunity.
She's sweet and broken and desperately seeking protection and love ( both of which she never had growing up)
Then comes the obsession...
I also loved the plus size representation!
This man is all kinds of red flags, everything i would never tolerate in real life but for some reason I'm swooning like Peyton is.

Okay, so I didn't know how I felt going into this one as I heard so many good things about this series, but how the first book wasn't as good as the rest .....
Well I absolutely loved this one, so that just means that this whole series will be a five star read for me.
I was hooked right from the beginning, pulled into this wild ride, with this wild man. I loved the huge difference between both main characters, personality wise. They were definitely the definition of opposites attract.
I also love me a morally grey possessive MMC in my dark romances, so this was right up my alley.

• Dom/Sub
• Protector
• Spicy
• Kidnapping

🥵🥵oh my days, this hit the spot
Nero is hot. My oh my, was this man's mouth filthy and sweet all at the same time. This is exactly why I listen to audiobooks lol. I know there are mixed reviews here, and I think it's because there wasn't a significant conflict between Nero and Payton. She accepted his lifestyle, and he proved he would stop at nothing to have and protect her. For me, it was exactly what I needed.
