À propos de cet audio
A completely addictive story that will have you on the edge of your seat
She’d do anything for her boy…
Vanessa Sawyer knows all about pain. She’s felt it every day since marrying the boy who fathered her baby in high school. All he’s meant are broken bones, broken heart and broken dreams. But he also brought her the love of her life. When her son Wren was born, her baby boy was her salvation.
Vanessa watches Wren grow and become a young man she can be proud of. Until one night everything changes, including Wren. One night that her son refuses to speak of. Now Vanessa can’t rest, not until she uncovers the secret that her son has been hiding from her.
Will she find the answers she’s searching for or will her quest for the truth take her to a dark place where all hope is lost?
One evil act. One tragedy. Lives destroyed forever.
Heart-pounding and unforgettable, Kirsty Ferguson has written the perfect novel for all fans of Shari Lapena and Kendra Elliot.

At one point I do notice the mouse sounds that a previous poster referred to, however I did not find they were throughout the whole book, and was able to tune them out. There were some little annoying things here and there, like how one character constantly refers to another as their best friend. It became overused. And add another point near the end there is what seems like a pretty big leap to me of the main characters theory on what has happened. It just seemed in that specific moment to be a bit of a lazy leap to move the story to where she needed it to go. So this is too harsh criticism for what it is. Overall I think it was very well written and very well performed. And I think it definitely speaks to the devastating impact of some of the social themes that have come out in it, even if a little overdone at times.
Ummm. WOW.

The first half of the book is basically back story. I found this book not so much a thriller as a domestic tragedy with a twist. I stuck it out to the end because I did want to find out what happened.
The story had potential and I had high hopes but by the end of the book I really disliked the main character and, without spoiling, her choices late in the novel angered me to the point it ruined the whole thing and lowered my rating.
Mixed opinion on this book

Based on some of the terminology used in the story I suspect that it is set in England or perhaps Australia. Having a North American sounding reader is not the best fit for the terms used in the book. I find the story quite unrealistic in many aspects. Seems very strange that a person would get pregnant each of the two times she had sexual contact in the beginning of the book.
The plot has potential, the details are somewhat far fetched. I like a story that is more realistic. The writing is kind of lack lustre. Entertaining enough for my needs depending on my mood but glad I did not use a credit for it.
Meh

Trigger warnings!

I listened to this with earbuds and could hear the narrator's dry mouth sounds that the sound editors made no effort to fix. This was distracting and irritating.
The protagonist relies on her son for medical care after beatings by her husband, his father, which just seems wrong on so many levels. He is not her care-giver and support person. He is her child. She made something out of their relationship that no child should have to give.
SPOILER ALERT: The ending sits very uncomfortably with me. Her son raped girls, including his girlfriend who he thought it might lead to her taking her life. Instead of bringing justice and healing to those girls and their families, she chose to hide his abuse and perpetuate the lie that he was a loving, respectful man of women. And what of his partners in his rape crimes? She has left them to continue to prey on young girls. Disgusting!
BEWARE TRIGGERS! Rape, spousal abuse, suicide
