The 588th Night Bomber Regiment was one of the most decorated units; each member had flown more than 800 missions by the end of the war, and 23 were awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union (the highest distinction).

not a lengthy read, but excellent and well done

I really liked this story about the Russian women combat pilots. they were so brave and committed. can't imagine climbing into a wood and cloth biplane at night and flying out to face the Nazi war machine
