Description

Night is falling.

The unstoppable Hegemony invasion has reached the very heart of the Confederation. Battle after desperate battle has been fought, and each time, the Confeds have been pushed back, columns of battered and blasted ship retreating from system to system. Now, they prepare to grimly defend the capital world of Megara, the very center of the Confederation.

Tyler Barron prepares for what could be his final battle, a final desperate defense, one last chance to stem the tide of Hegemony conquest and subjugation. The fleet is ready, its exhausted crews prepared to fight with all the strength that remains to them. Still, the enemy is overpoweringly strong, and the odds of victory are slipping quickly away.

But, there is still hope. From unexpected allies. From the grit and determination of the defending fleets and their spacers. And, from a plan so daring it borders on the impossible…a wild and desperate gamble to stem the tide of conquest and halt the enemy.

It is night, and everywhere there is darkness, but the Confederation is not beaten yet. Barron and his comrades will stand, and they will struggle to somehow endure the darkness and fight through to the dawn.

Too much reviewing

The entire first 1/2 of the book spends way to much time talking about what has already happened in the other books. Seriously if someone started reading or listening to this series at book 10 it’s there own fault if they are lost. It started with book 8 then Book 9 has the same major problem as book 10. I am not sure at this point if I will get book 11 if I have to suffer through so much rehashing. Jay Allen if you read this review please please please give us more story and less time spent copying and pasting what you already wrote in books 1 - 10. I don’t care if the next book is 1/2 as thick as this one.

Long winded noble sacrifice porn

Good. Freaking. Lord. Can the next book buck the trend of waxing romantic about self sacrifice every third paragraph? Seriously, a single character decides that their honorable sacrifice is for the better good, spelled out in eye rolling amounts of prose, 4 times in the same story and probably 12+ times in the series... There was more angst in here than exists in all of the middle schools in California, basically the first 2/3 of the book, imagine Twilight for politics in space with battleships. The last third was more in line with the first books, decent technical military scifi, tho it too had plenty of hand-wringing.

Too much introspection by morons

About 69% of the book is internal dialogue about their pain, determination and honor. Monotonous.

Terrific Listen!

Jay Allan writes some of the best Space Opera out there! Always great heroes and villains. Some times a little too predictable but I still love listening to them.

Continuous space battles

A story of fast paced battle action in the Confederation defense against the Hegemony. The whole book is filled with descriptions of space battles. Lots of stories of very melodramatic individual acts of heroism, and introspection of the battle leaders. Old adversaries join together against the invaders,”the enemy of my enemy is my ally.”

Prepare to use your fast forward

As previous reviewers have said, there is an awful lot of pontificating, monologuing, and hand-wringing within the smattering of actual action. When Barron or Stockton was about to think or speak, I almost automatically jumped forward 60 seconds knowing they were about to embark on a round of self- recrimination or pointless encouraging of fighters already engaged in battle. I must have ultimately skipped over at least an hour overall.

wonderful. Intrigue and glory

wonderful book. full of intrigue and romantic ideology. sometimes a bit repetitive, but it has a quality Tonite that keeps you going. Just as you feel success is near, a curve ball that throws you around and has you yearning for closure. simply a great book.

Great space opera

Awesome books, and listening to them for a long time. The only comment I have for the author is these books would be great for people that have short term memory loss. The constant repetitive pre-and post amble for every scene sometimes gets a little daunting.

Pavel

Nice story but it need to end 4 books ago. The narration is great and honestly the only reason I am read as far as I have. The author started out in the series, well but very very redundant on building characters, after half the series has been written we all know how great each of the characters are, how selfless each one is, how much they hate to be warriors but do it because of pride and honor.

Get on with the story!

Honestly I just flip past the pages or the narration when the author starts to drone on about the characters personal introspection. Even worse when there are three points to a battle you have to go through the introspection of each of the characters in each of the points of the battle and each of them is an honor bound warrior, ........ and as the main charters are “ well the main characters “ we already know this from reading it 20 times during the last 10 books.

glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews

This book is as good as any of the series. An excellent story with lots of turns and twists. Very entertaining and I'm glad I didn't heed the bad reviews . I like this author. He makes my long drives to and from work something to look forward too.
