Digging deep into her strengths, her failures, and her losses, Jann Arden brings us an inspiring account of how she has surprised herself, in her 50s, by at last becoming completely her own person. Like many women, it took Jann a long time to realize that trying to be pleasing and likeable and beautiful in the eyes of others was a loser's game. Letting it rip, and damning the consequences, is not only liberating, it's a hell of a lot of fun: "Being the age I am - that so many women are - is just the best time of my life."

I’ve been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

At this time of Covid, singer, songwriter and best-selling author Alan Doyle is feeling everyone's pain. Off the road and spending more days at home than he has since he was a child hawking cod tongues on the wharfs of Petty Harbour, he misses the crowds and companionship of performing. Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like ""Buying the Plot"" and ""Nodding Off,"" Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever ""test positive for Maalox""), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (""the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac""); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

Description
This program is read by Michael J. Fox.
A moving account of resilience, hope, fear and mortality, and how these things resonate in our lives, by actor and advocate Michael J. Fox.
The entire world knows Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, the teenage sidekick of Doc Brown in Back to the Future; as Alex P. Keaton in Family Ties; as Mike Flaherty in Spin City; and through numerous other movie roles and guest appearances on shows such as The Good Wife and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Diagnosed at age 29, Michael is equally engaged in Parkinson’s advocacy work, raising global awareness of the disease and helping find a cure through The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, the world’s leading non-profit funder of PD science. His two previous best-selling memoirs, Lucky Man and Always Looking Up, dealt with how he came to terms with the illness, all the while exhibiting his iconic optimism. His new memoir reassesses this outlook, as events in the past decade presented additional challenges.
In No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality, Michael shares personal stories and observations about illness and health, aging, the strength of family and friends, and how our perceptions about time affect the way we approach mortality. Thoughtful and moving, but with Fox’s trademark sense of humor, his audiobook provides a vehicle for reflection about our lives, our loves, and our losses.
Running through the narrative is the drama of the medical madness Fox recently experienced, that included his daily negotiations with the Parkinson’s disease he’s had since 1991, and a spinal cord issue that necessitated immediate surgery. His challenge to learn how to walk again, only to suffer a devastating fall, nearly caused him to ditch his trademark optimism and “get out of the lemonade business altogether.”
Does he make it all of the way back? Listen to the audiobook.

Loved this book! Thank you Michael J Fox for being just who you are! This book came at the perfect time in this Covid world and helps put life in perspective for what it was, what it is and what it could be for me! Michael's speech, although affected by Parkinson's, is a welcoming sound with his humor and wit as he narrates his own story. I hate what Parkinson's did to Michael but love what it did for him and the rest of us inspired by his journey! Admiration and gratitude! Enjoy! 😌

Overall very well enjoyed
In my opinion, this book is worth purchasing if you are already familiar with Michael J. Fox.
I thoroughly enjoyed him narrating his own book & adding inflections & personal touches where he felt necessary. It was easy to visualize.
I was captivated learning about his struggles, physio treatments, travels, experiences, perspective on life with PD, & how supportive his family is through all of this. The way he approaches a life altering disability with positivity, humor, & determination is very inspiring.

Informative, inspiring, humorous
Michael J. Fox is very real with his PD and other struggles, yet remains positive and humorous. I found it a little hard to understand his reading at first, but I soon adapted. And then I couldn't stop listening. He really opened my eyes with the struggles of PD and other implications. I commend him for his honesty and bravery.

Inspiring, beautifully presented and thankful for your words. I too am going through a health issue, not the same illness as yours but an illness all the same. I’ve been fighting it for over a year and only recently have had a small, pea size amount of success. But in its wake, I’ve lost my job and the unfortunate battles with the insurance company some days feel like too much. I appreciate your struggle and your strength, it has inspired me to keep fighting on. Thank you! ❤️

I've listened to all of Mr. Fox's books and have enjoyed them all. This one, in particular because of it's timeliness, was the best. There is nothing sugar coated, yet it remains oddly upbeat, even though it hurts to hear much of. Highly recommend.

I very much enjoyed listening to Mr. Fox's memories, stories and struggles due to PD. I thought at first that it may be hard to understand the slight slur in his speech but it turned out not to be a problem. Thanks you for sharing with such honesty and thank you for all the great devotion you and Tracy lend to fighting PD. You were part of my experiences learning the U.S. culture through TV in the 80s and have remained a constant in entertainment, and now, in being an amazing human. For that, and for this book, I thank you!

Another great one by MJ Fox!
This is an excellent book. I had read his 'Lucky Man" book many years ago and loved that, so I figured I'd give this one a try. He wrote a book in between these two, but I haven't read that one. He's not as upbeat in this book, as he has been living with PD for many years and has had some decline. That said, it's not at all a sad book.
Michael does a great job sharing with us his experiences without whining but also not acting like it's all a piece of cake. Tracy is an amazing wife for how she has not only stuck by him , but has gone above and beyond.
At first, I had a hard time understanding Michael, but I slowed the rate down to 85% and it was perfect. For me, he was speaking a little to quickly and since he doesn't always enunciate well, I had a hard time understanding him at the 100% speed. I love when an author reads their own book - he puts great inflections, pauses etc into his reading, as if you're sitting in his living room and he's talking to you.
I highly recommend this book.

Hoping for more revelatory prose.. or perhaps
a deeper analysis of mortality. It's instead an autobiography of Fox's challenging 20 years or so since diagnosis and a saccharine look at the value of family.
