Digging deep into her strengths, her failures, and her losses, Jann Arden brings us an inspiring account of how she has surprised herself, in her 50s, by at last becoming completely her own person. Like many women, it took Jann a long time to realize that trying to be pleasing and likeable and beautiful in the eyes of others was a loser's game. Letting it rip, and damning the consequences, is not only liberating, it's a hell of a lot of fun: "Being the age I am - that so many women are - is just the best time of my life."

Description
This program is read by Michael J. Fox.
A moving account of resilience, hope, fear and mortality, and how these things resonate in our lives, by actor and advocate Michael J. Fox.
The entire world knows Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, the teenage sidekick of Doc Brown in Back to the Future; as Alex P. Keaton in Family Ties; as Mike Flaherty in Spin City; and through numerous other movie roles and guest appearances on shows such as The Good Wife and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Diagnosed at age 29, Michael is equally engaged in Parkinson’s advocacy work, raising global awareness of the disease and helping find a cure through The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, the world’s leading non-profit funder of PD science. His two previous best-selling memoirs, Lucky Man and Always Looking Up, dealt with how he came to terms with the illness, all the while exhibiting his iconic optimism. His new memoir reassesses this outlook, as events in the past decade presented additional challenges.
In No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality, Michael shares personal stories and observations about illness and health, aging, the strength of family and friends, and how our perceptions about time affect the way we approach mortality. Thoughtful and moving, but with Fox’s trademark sense of humor, his audiobook provides a vehicle for reflection about our lives, our loves, and our losses.
Running through the narrative is the drama of the medical madness Fox recently experienced, that included his daily negotiations with the Parkinson’s disease he’s had since 1991, and a spinal cord issue that necessitated immediate surgery. His challenge to learn how to walk again, only to suffer a devastating fall, nearly caused him to ditch his trademark optimism and “get out of the lemonade business altogether.”
Does he make it all of the way back? Listen to the audiobook.

Inspiring, beautifully presented and thankful for your words. I too am going through a health issue, not the same illness as yours but an illness all the same. I’ve been fighting it for over a year and only recently have had a small, pea size amount of success. But in its wake, I’ve lost my job and the unfortunate battles with the insurance company some days feel like too much. I appreciate your struggle and your strength, it has inspired me to keep fighting on. Thank you! ❤️

I've listened to all of Mr. Fox's books and have enjoyed them all. This one, in particular because of it's timeliness, was the best. There is nothing sugar coated, yet it remains oddly upbeat, even though it hurts to hear much of. Highly recommend.

I very much enjoyed listening to Mr. Fox's memories, stories and struggles due to PD. I thought at first that it may be hard to understand the slight slur in his speech but it turned out not to be a problem. Thanks you for sharing with such honesty and thank you for all the great devotion you and Tracy lend to fighting PD. You were part of my experiences learning the U.S. culture through TV in the 80s and have remained a constant in entertainment, and now, in being an amazing human. For that, and for this book, I thank you!

Hoping for more revelatory prose.. or perhaps
a deeper analysis of mortality. It's instead an autobiography of Fox's challenging 20 years or so since diagnosis and a saccharine look at the value of family.

Another great one by MJ Fox!
This is an excellent book. I had read his 'Lucky Man" book many years ago and loved that, so I figured I'd give this one a try. He wrote a book in between these two, but I haven't read that one. He's not as upbeat in this book, as he has been living with PD for many years and has had some decline. That said, it's not at all a sad book.
Michael does a great job sharing with us his experiences without whining but also not acting like it's all a piece of cake. Tracy is an amazing wife for how she has not only stuck by him , but has gone above and beyond.
At first, I had a hard time understanding Michael, but I slowed the rate down to 85% and it was perfect. For me, he was speaking a little to quickly and since he doesn't always enunciate well, I had a hard time understanding him at the 100% speed. I love when an author reads their own book - he puts great inflections, pauses etc into his reading, as if you're sitting in his living room and he's talking to you.
I highly recommend this book.
