Dennis Banks, an American Indian of the Ojibwa Tribe and a founder of the American Indian Movement, is one of the most influential Indian leaders of our time. In Ojibwa Warrior, written with acclaimed writer and photographer Richard Erdoes, Banks tells his own story for the first time and also traces the rise of the American Indian Movement (AIM). The authors present an insider's understanding of AIM protest events - the Trail of Broken Treaties march to Washington, D.C.; the resulting takeover of the BIA building; the riot at Custer, South Dakota; and the 1973 standoff at Wounded Knee.
The book is published by University of Oklahoma Press.

Blood, Sweat & Tears of History Brought to Life
The narrator's voice, pace and performance takes you by the hand, like a time traveler, through out Mr. Bank's life shared so candidly within these pages. Coming from Latin America, I was raised to think that anything and everything "American" was like touching gold, it surprised, shocked and saddened me to find out how so much of the same type of brutal violence, corruption and irreverence to human dignity normally associated with "3rd world" countries was alive and well just a few decades ago in good 'ole U S. of A. This book should be a mandatory reading/listen in all Jr and High School levels.
