À propos de cet audio
From roadside deliveries of babies in subzero temperatures to life-saving emergency flights in blizzards, any day could hold another wild call for this doctor in Alaska's Copper River Valley. Dr. Jim was an ER physician, surgeon, counselor, ambulance driver, obstetrician, stand-in veterinarian, administrator, and family doctor, from 1954 to 1987. As one patient said, "Whoever heard of one doctor doing all that?" People came from an area the size of Ohio to be cared for at the only medical facility in that region for many years.
Dr. Jim handled mountain-climbing tragedies, bear maulings, patients with severe psychological challenges, and even an outbreak of diphtheria. The stories were as unique as this vast remote area. By the time he retired, Dr. Jim's vital work at mission-affiliated Faith Hospital in Glennallen was applauded by several of Alaska's leaders. This unique biography of a man with a servant heart not only encourages listeners, but challenges them to look beyond themselves.
