Description

The naval service of the Honourable East India Company, popularly known as the Bombay Marine, knew its share of adventure - none more than Captain Percival Merewether and the men of his ship, Rapid. From Mauritius to Teheran, from the Bay of Bengal toward Australia - weathering fierce naval battles, skirmishes with pirate fleets, and sometimes equally hazardous engagements ashore - the seas were packed with the stuff that goes to make incident. And action it was that really sparked Merewether and his men in a rousing tale that will give much pleasure to those who like a rattling good yarn.

Awesome series of 1806 sailing vessels books!!!

I’m glued to the three books of this series.

It’s set in 1807 and follows the adventures, both onboard and landed.

The main character is very well written. He is a Captain of the Bombay Marine of the British East India Company with a history…. The supporting characters are well written too.

I have had a little training in a small craft using sails but I think the most interesting part of the stories is listening how many different vessels there were including the Royal Navy. The description of the sails being set, cannons and the Marines feels like you are really there observing how the tall ships operated and were so dependent on the winds blowing in the right direction.

Most of the storylines actually follow what was happening in India in 1806, the effects of Napoleon’s War and the history of the company too. The company would end their operations around 1836 and then fold in the 1870s.
The voyages revolve around privateers and the war as there were other countries I.e. France that held some of those little islands to beyond the Bay of Bengal as well as other regions.

Just incredible! THERE ARE SOME ADULT SITUATIONS which is very unfortunate because I can picture a young person enjoying reading this series of books. Real adventures!
