Odessa Hardwicke's life is derailed when she's forced to turn her gun on her partner, Walt Leppo, a decorated FBI agent who turns suddenly, inexplicably violent while apprehending a rampaging murderer. The shooting, justified by self-defense, shakes the young FBI agent to her core. Devastated, Odessa is placed on desk leave pending a full investigation. But what most troubles Odessa isn't the tragedy itself - it's the shadowy presence she thought she saw fleeing the deceased agent's body after his death.

Published in 1945, Cannery Row focuses on the acceptance of life as it is: both the exuberance of community and the loneliness of the individual. Drawing on his memories of the real inhabitants of Monterey, California, Steinbeck interweaves the stories of Doc, Henri, Mack and his boys, and the other characters in this world where only the fittest survive, to create a novel that is at once one of his most humorous and most poignant works.

From such cult hits as Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski to major critical darlings Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and Inside Llewyn Davis, Ethan and Joel Coen have cultivated a bleakly comical, instantly recognizable voice in modern American cinema. Film critic Adam Nayman carefully sifts through their complex cinematic universe in an effort to plot, as he puts it, "some Grand Unified Theory of Coen-ness." The book combines critical text with a visual aesthetic that honors the Coens' singular mix of darkness and levity.

Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

Description
Narrated by Jennifer Jason Leigh
Quentin Tarantino’s long-awaited first work of fiction - at once hilarious, delicious, and brutal - is the always surprising, sometimes shocking new novel based on his Academy Award-winning film.
Rick Dalton: Once he had his own TV series, but now Rick’s a washed-up villain-of-the week drowning his sorrows in whiskey sours. Will a phone call from Rome save his fate or seal it?
Cliff Booth: Rick’s stunt double, and the most infamous man on any movie set because he’s the only one there who might have gotten away with murder....
Sharon Tate: She left Texas to chase a movie-star dream and found it. Sharon’s salad days are now spent on Cielo Drive, high in the Hollywood Hills.
Charles Manson: The ex-con’s got a bunch of zonked-out hippies thinking he’s their spiritual leader, but he’d trade it all to be a rock ‘n’ roll star.
Hollywood 1969: You shoulda been there

One of my top Tarantino movies, à femelle voice actor sounded at first akward for a story about two male leads , but after a few chapters it made sense. Re-enjoyed all the finer details not so subtle in the movie

A critical edition to the Once Upon a Time universe
What did I like? The extended Cliff Booth story is exceptionally written. The insight into Rick Dalton is exquisitely cathartic. And even the Manson family exploits are intense and vivid, almost as if Quentin Tarantino was there…

For Fans Of Film And Writing
Acutal rating 4.5! This was not at all what I was expecting, which I suppose goes hand in hand with any work by Quentin Tarantino. I'll say upfront that if you are not a fan of Tarantino, classic cinema, or film-making, this may not be the book for you. Is it well written and full of commentary and theme? Of course. This is Tarantino. Yet I can see how anyone who doesn't have an interest in those things could find this book slow and anticlimactic, given the well known names embedded in the story.
The plot follows an actor named Rick and his stunt man Cliff as they begin work on a new TV pilot in 1969. Really, this is a character and culture study more than anything else.
Rick has a great character arc as he works through being an alcoholic actor who has yet to hit it big. His friend Cliff is a rough piece of work who stays in the shadows and stays relatively unnoticed, despite the huge things he's done. Both compliment each other and have great scenes together, as one supports the other. Sharon Tate is presented as a sweet woman who is trying to make her own way in the world of show business, and the focus of the Manson's is ultimately on the family rather than just Charles himself.
While I did expect a bit more action and plot, once I got into it, I quite enjoyed the book. The character development and dialogue are the strongest points, and it was interesting to have a peek inside the world of TV and film.
For all its slower pace and lack of action, I did find this book to be very good and would recommend it to the fans it's catered to, as well as writers looking to learn the craft, regardless of the medium they want to venture into.

Tarantino at his creative apex!
Second time listening and I’ve seen the movie at least four times, this may be Tarantino’s greatest work yet. The book adds so much to the movie and diverges into storylines the movie couldn’t go and really gives you a deep understanding of the characters and who they are (and were in a darker years) and the different endings are very enjoyable. Do yourself a favour and listen to the book then watch the movie again!

Great Book Ruined by Leigh
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is, in my opinion, Tarantino's second best movie and one of my top ten favorite movies of all time (Pulp Fiction is #1). Because I'm an obvious Tarantino fan and loved the movie so much, I was excited to get this audio book. I pre-ordered on Audible and listened as soon as it became available.
Talk about a bring-down bummer!!! Jennifer Jason Leigh is THE WORST audio book narrator that I have ever heard. Not only is she monotone, but she consistently has vocal fry throughout the reading. For those of you who don't know, vocal fry is the croaky speech idiosyncrasy that was popularized by young girls like Kim Kardashian. Many females use vocal fry these days, and I (plus several people I know) find it extremely annoying and definitely not appropriate for professional settings such as a book narrator. According to my wife who is annoyed by vocal fry even more than I, women talk like this because they think they sound intelligent, sexy, or they are just simply copy-catting what they see on TV. As far as I'm concerned, this audio book was completely ruined because of the incessant vocal fry. If you think you can stomach Jennifer Jason Leigh's reading performance, then this great story is worth a listen. If not, read the book yourself on Kindle or buy the actual book. Tarantino has done a great job on this novel, and if you're a fan, you'll love it! I just ordered the paperback version of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Amazon for $7.48, and I'll also be ordering the hardback when it is released this Fall. In the meantime, I think I'll go watch Hateful Eight 'Extended Version' on Netflix just so I can enjoy the demise of Daisy Domergue.

Great story, not so great narration.
The story is very interesting and gives a lot of details that aren’t in the film. My only criticism is the choice of Jennifer Jason Lee as the narrator. She’s so monotone and uninteresting to listen to. Tarantino should have had someone like Samuel L. Jackson or Kurt Russel narrate.

JJL was the wrong choice for narrator
This a man’s story, and should have been narrated by a man. Her voice in this audio book is dry, monotone, no inflection, and just grates on my nerves. This is a wonderful story and it’s unfortunate they didn’t do it justice by choosing a better narrator.

I gave up less than 5 minutes in. Couldn't understand a word of it. JJL was a terrible choice for a narrator. She's a talented actress, shouldn't be here at all. Feel like asking for a refund. I love audiobooks but I'll need a paperback version of this.

Unbelievably Bad Narration
Jennifer Jason Leigh is far and away the worst narrator I've ever heard. I get they might have wanted a Tarantino alumni, but this is unbearable to listen too. I celebrate this man's entire filmography but I'll return this and just buy the hardcopy.

Also... to appreciate this book, you gotta understand what QT is referencing here, the popular movie novelizations of the 1970's. QT is such an incredible historian in his own way -- and not just about film. The amount of research that goes into his work is seriously impressive.
I know taste is an individual thing, but...
JJL rocked it.
And this book does exactly what it set out to do.

12 hours of vocal fry
Love the movie and maybe the book will be OK. But the narration here is incredibly annoying. shut it off after 20 minutes. Can’t listen to 12 hours of vocal fry.

Performed Masterly.
The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood novelization is masterly. It allows Tarantino to amass this wealth of context like an avalanche building towards every scene. I highly recommend the audiobook. Listening to Jennifer Jason Leigh recite Quentin's writing is an experience unto itself.

Great book
It is a great read and expands on the movie, makes me want to write my own novel.
