Description

It's not easy being the only human at the Community of Species Government - and especially not when you're the rescue case. Two years ago, I was planning to go to college, have a wild time, then settle into a normal life. Instead, I was kidnapped, spent months being a test subject, was in hiding for nearly a year, and then found out that my whole existence is a science experiment conducted by the bad guys. It's definitely time to reassess.

My rescuers at CSG have been awesome...mostly. They gave me a job, a home, and a support network. But the whole demons, vampires, shifters thing is not easy to get used to. Especially when one particular vampire makes me want to take up stake sharpening for a hobby.

The thing is, teenage mentality or not, Andrew is a fierce protector. With the bad guys still on the loose, I need someone like that on my side. Plus, did I mention that he's not hard to look at?

As we race to find my former captor before he can find me, life takes another twist and upends my world all over again. This time, though, I'm ready - after all, I've got an 800-year-old vampire at my back. What could possibly go wrong?

Worth the credit

Really enjoyed the storyline and of course the excellent narration from Joel takes it to another level. Definitely worth the credit, can highly recommend and I am usually not a fan of paranormal.

Just Buy This Book!

Look, I am not even into the fantasy/sci-fi genre, but this book is freaking awesome! Hilariously laugh out loud funny, super sexy, and perfectly narrated. Can’t wait for more of this series!

I love this series

I love visiting this world and all its people. It's so intriguing and well written, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. A modern day human and an 800 year old vampire - hilarity and drama ensues. AND Joel Leslie is a master of accents and innuendo. He grabs the story and takes it into the atmosphere. He is a joy to listen to.

HFN

I don’t like cliffhanger books, but I just figured out I don’t like “happy for now” either.
Cool and twisted story, this really is a series you have to have all. And in order …
The book was good and somewhat interesting, though it felt like it got wrapped up a little too abruptly.
Great narrator, enjoyable performance.

Hitting a stride.

This was phenomenal, and I am thoroughly glad I stuck with the series.
The story is a little light on plot, but builds firmly on the metaplot and outdoes itself with characterization. Again, the worldbuilding is solid here, and the reveals feel like payoffs this time instead of out-of-the-blue twists. The characters get a bit more time to stretch and breathe, and the dual narration style gives hilarious perspective. The dialogue is *chef’s kiss*. The speech is witty and crackles, and Joel’s performance just takes it to the next level. The banter between the main love interests made me lament there was only an hour and a half left.
I am definitely looking forward to the next installment.

Fun fantasy with feisty banter and action

I love this series. It’s an interesting take on supernatural beings. Masters does a fantastic job blending a great narrative with snappy banter, funny and engaging characters and the occasional time where she seamlessly asks the reader things directly. It is a delightful way of writing that I find well done and refreshing. The story is interesting and there is a surprise ending. Can’t wait for more. Joel Leslie Knocks this one out of the park! Spot on accents, vocal drama building, tempo, pitch, and pauses all placed exactly where they need to be in order to fully envelop the listener in an amazing listening experience. I loved these characters- I laughed throughout the story. Kudos!!!

A Good Second in the Series

The book didn't get off to as strong if a start as the last one did. It just felt slow. Noah is a very different character than Sam was, and the banter between him and Andrew was clever, but not always my thing. Then the pace picked up, the overarching storyline came back into play, and the book has a satisfying HFN. That said, I wish I'd waited until the next book was out. This is very definitely a middle child. There a lot of question unanswered.
