In this novel, the narrator, Hillary Huber, isn't the best at accents, and her narration of Dina's last scene made it seem as though Dina was hiding something, by her tone, when she wasn't at all. The mens' voices were well narrated though. The story, written by Cate Holahan, was a sad commentary on the silence society keeps when we know those amongst us are being abused, and what that taboo of polite innocence can create.

The story was pretty good. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters overall, but the ending was surprising.

A decent summer read

I see a lot of reviews commenting on the Narrator, however, I found their voice perfect for the book. Made for a very easy listen.

The story is about two crimes in one area, they are vaguely related, the opening crime is left unresolved (IMO) and is used more for support for the second crime plot. I think this is my biggest complaint, it felt very disconnected and left me wondering the whole time when it was going to circle back.

Overall, the book was fun but not really one I would recommend unless looking for a free listen.

The first 75% of the story is very blah , the opening scene which you think the whole story will be about is in fact not needed in there at all .

The past and present way of writing the story was interesting and it didn’t get confusing. But there are times that the writing got me lost. The introduction of new subject or topic was confusing at times.

Quite an engaging story line but WHY have that nasal narrator with her uncomfortable drawl do the reading? Otherwise, a decent murder mystery touching on pertinent topics such as spousal abuse.
