In a post-apocalyptic America, range rider Deaver Teague is trying to get to the town of Moab to replace his dead horse. Along the way, he's picked up by the Aal family’s pageant wagon. When Deaver decides to help them set up their next show, he becomes embroiled in a family crisis.

He’s picked up by a traveling theatre troupe that’s three generations of the same family; having grown up an orphan, Teague is both weirded out and jealous of this family’s dynamic.
This is an interesting novella, and while pretty heavy on the author’s Mormon religion, it doesn’t preach at you. The ending is a little trite but the overall uplifting theme was well-intentioned.
As always, Stefan Rudnicki brings this tale to life with his outstanding narration.
