À propos de cet audio
Stephen's god died on the longest day of the year....
Three years later, Stephen is a broken paladin, living only for the chance to be useful before he dies. But all that changes when he encounters a fugitive named Grace in an alley and witnesses an assassination attempt gone wrong. Now the pair must navigate a web of treachery, beset on all sides by spies and poisoners, while a cryptic killer stalks one step behind....
From the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author of Swordheart and The Twisted Ones comes a saga of murder, magic, and love on the far side of despair.

More on the spice at the end of review.**
I LOVED that all of the main characters are adults. FMC & MMC are 32 & 37 and have had lives. It's SO REFRESHING to read a love story about REAL people - while still in a semi fantastical setting (talking.. badger-type creatures make an appearance in the later part of the story).
The story is most heavy on the characters with a minor mystery as the premise, and the characters are downright loveable.
What was also refreshing was that, despite the MMC and his cohorts being crazy, god-blessed fighting machines, there was no war or fighting. No elaborate world building, no deep history of warring lands and cruel kings... And the paladins are the cutest besties ever.
This book was the break I needed from the romantasies of magical, immortal faes and the like and their drama.
I heard the next books in this series aren't as good, but I am having a hard time believing that because I love these characters so much, I could read a book about them hanging out on a rainy day and still enjoy it.
**So re: spice if that's what you're looking for. Gingerbread has a bit of spice and so does this book. It's not shocking when it happens, especially when what I started to consider a relatively innocent book suddenly threw out the word cock a few times and referenced self pleasure. I was like oh ok, you little naughties ;)
But the spice was like a freshly baked gingerbread man. Toasty and cute AF.
If you're looking for wet your pants spice, you will not find it in this book.
(Hence me comparing the spice to gingerbread spice.)
This book IS the gingerbread that is so often mentioned in the story. <3

I really enjoyed the narrator. He has a calming tone that perfectly matched the male character but he also did a great job of the the more nervous and academic tone of the FMC.
100% recommend this book

Beyond what I was expecting!

it's refreshing to have a romantic couple who is a bit older and honestly the banter between Grace and Steven is both cute and awkward. There is a spicy scene in the book but I honestly felt this had a very realistic and relatable scene rather than some books I've read.
Although the focus is the romance the story does bring a mystery that keeps you hooked. Albeit I thought the issue was resolved a bit too quick.
Recommend this book for anyone interested in Fantasy or Romance
Cute Banter in a Fantasy Setting

PALADIN’S GRACE is a light-hearted romantasy that follows a former paladin named Stephen as he crosses paths and eventually begins to protect Grace, a perfumer who finds herself swept into spy-craft, politics, and a host of trouble.
Stephen and Grace are so sweet. He’s guilt-ridden and devoted, and she is sweet and naïve, and they are both unbelievably awkward with the romance blossoming between them. I adore their interactions and the banter was top notch. They had great arcs together and apart, and I would love to see more of them.
The plot is fairly straightforward and light-hearted, which was just what I wanted. That said, there was tension, drama, and stakes. And maybe a serial killer running around.
The world was easy to understand and light on the fantasy, which did get a little jarring at one point (though that may’ve been because I hadn’t been expecting a particular moment), but I never felt lost. The plot is simple and fairly tight, with plenty of hints for future books even though this can be read as a standalone.
All this to say that I once again adored one of T. Kingfisher’s light-hearted romantic fantasies and can’t wait to read more from her!
