Description

In a not-too-distant future that is not quite ours, there has been a major scientific breakthrough. It is a way to open windows into the past, permitting historical researchers to view, but not participate, in the events of the past.

In one of the most powerful and thought-provoking novels of his remarkable career, Orson Scott Card interweaves a compelling portrait of Christopher Columbus with the story of a future scientist who believes she can alter human history from a tragedy of bloodshed and brutality to a world filled with hope and healing.

less action, a lot of thinking, great story

This was different from my usual books (i tend to read about elves or magic). The slower placed story was still very interesting and touched enough on historical events that I knew about (i dont know much about history) to keep me very interested in the fictional outcome.

Best Orson Scott Card ever

I’ve read this book at least 7 times and I’ve found the insights into humanity, the reflection on the impact of little and big choices and how they can ripple through time, the power of culture and myth and the overall tie into the challenges facing society are incredibly powerful and thought provoking.

I love Enders Game. I love Prentice Alvin. I love most of Card’s other stuff. This book though is my favourite and I highly recommend it.

Pointless anti-colonial rambling.

Tenuous attempt at stringing a plot, and endless wandering around scenes without advancing the narrative.

predictable - good- unrealistic

I enjoyed this spin and revisionist history but I think OSC puts too much faith in humanity, especially Europeans and their detrimental interference in North American indigenous cultures.

loved the varied narrators
