Warrior

If I were to asked to describe George S. Patton Jr. with one word, it would be "warrior". Historian/Author Alan Axelrod makes it quite clear that Patton was a man tailor-made for combat.. but that struggled with peacetime service - albeit unapolagetically.
This book documents the General's considerable talents while in action while demonstrating examples of innumerable personal failings (promiscuity, intolerance, elitist and racist attitudes, etc.), a combative personality, and unyielding ambition.

Reader Brian Emerson provides an above-average reading - matching exemplary diction, cadence, and timbre with a spot-on pedagogical tone (Emerson is clearly teaching).
He reads too slowly (setting playback speed at 1.20X yields the most "natural" delivery), but was a great choice of reader from Blackstone Audio (it's unfortunate that the technical support is somewhat lacking - allowing some repetition of recorded segments, for example).

Taking into account the excellent summary/interpretation chapter at the end of the book (to it's detriment, most of the book is strictly chronological), 'Patton' merits 7.5 stars out of 10.
As a more "casual" follower of Military History, I wouldn't have downloaded it if it weren't a 'Plus' selection.. but it would actually be worth a Credit to serious students of WWII personalities.
