Description

For an overpopulated Earth, whose resources are strained to the breaking point, there is only one place to look for relief: straight up. With the successful completion of the Padrugoi Space Station, humanity has at last achieved its first large-scale permanent presence in space. Additional bases are feverishly being built on the Moon and on Mars, stepping-stones to the greatest adventure in all history: the colonization of alien worlds.

Already, long-range telescopes have identified a number of habitable planets orbiting other stars. Now it's just a question of getting there.

But there are those who, for selfish motives of their own, want Padrugoi and the other outposts to fail - people who will stop at nothing to maintain their power or to avenge its loss. Standing in their way are the Talented, men and women gifted with extraordinary mental powers that have made them as feared as they are respected - and utterly indispensable to the colonization effort.

There is Peter Reidinger, a teenage paraplegic who is the strongest telekinetic ever, his mind capable of teleporting objects and people thousands of miles in the blink of an eye. Yet all his power cannot repair his damaged spine or allow him to feel the gentle touch of a loved one. There is also Rhyssa Owne, the powerful telepath and mother hen to Peter and the rest of her "children" - and a fierce, unrelenting fighter against the prejudice that would deny the Talented the right to lead happy and productive lives. And Amariyah, an orphan girl who loves two things in the world above all others: gardening and Peter Reidinger. And woe to anyone who harms either one of them - for the young girl's talent may prove to be the most amazing of all.

Now, as sabotage and attempted murder strike the Station, it's up to the Talented to save the day. Only, who's going to save the Talented?

Great!!

Where is book 1 and 2? The talent series has always been one of my favorites, I'd like to get the other books on Audio.

Need book 1 and 2!

If I had not already read this and its predecessors in print previously, I would have been totally lost. To Ride Pegasus and Pegasus in Flight are not available on Audible yet, and for a new listener, this book will be confusing. It does not stand alone.

Other than that, it is classic McCaffrey! The good guys are very good and the bad guys are awful! This series is prequel to the Tower series. The narration is excellent. Hopefully the other two books will be available soon.

Re-Listen

I always like the talents series, I re-listen every other year or so. This book and the Rowan books are very well done. I wish somebody would get the earlier books in unabridged format, the abridged earlier books aren't worth it.

Finished with a flare

if you like the other two books in the series, you will love the last installment. As always, Anne McCaffrey does an excellent job of "putting you right in the story" good read!

One more time, please!

Read this years ago and still love the story, listening to the story made it new again. Great job with the different accents with characters from so many different places. I was very young when man first set foot on the moon and I think most people my age like the idea of people getting into space it is nice to think in the future that urge will still be there. Not just going to space but space and space stations being the setting for life stories rather than the whole story by its self. This book has a nice blend of being enamored with space but also well-developed characters who contribute to the story even if they themselves are not the space-faring type. The "Talented" storylines add to the story and at first glance might be mistaken for being the whole story but it is a facet that totally makes sense, even though they might have telekinesis or telepathy does not mean they can escape danger without a little luck and cooperation of other people too. (have listened multiple time and very much a favorite of mine)

Excrament Narrrator, GREAT AUTHOR ANNE MCCAFFREY

AS ALWAYS ANNE MCCAFFREY IS A GREAT AUTHOR HER BOOKS HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD WITH ME AND IN TURN SHE HAS OPENED AND SHARED NEW WORLDS FOR ME TO TRAVEL, AND TO THOSE WHOM I'VE GIFTED COPIES OR TO WHOM RECOMMENDED HER. the narration excrement, (there are other narrators who are to artistically able to pull off accents and enhance the narrative) her accents were so poorly performed and unbelievable,, they were a caricature of themselves, frankly they offensive like a racist joke. she did NO JUSTICE TO THIS GREAT STORY AND GREAT AUTHOR.
