Description

Period Power is a profound but practical blueprint for aligning daily life with the menstrual cycle, to give all menstruators a no-nonsense explanation of what the hell happens to us every month and how we can use each phase to its full advantage.

Ninety per cent of people who have periods experience symptoms of PMS, a syndrome which features a wide range of signs and symptoms, and yet there's an enduring lack of understanding about what it actually is and a disappointingly meagre range of treatment options.

So many of us have a Jekyll and Hyde experience of our lives; we feel on top of the world, capable, confident and sexy for part of each month, then find ourselves in a state of physical and emotional discomfort and fatigue, wanting nothing more than to collapse on the sofa in front of Netflix.

But what if instead of just trying to plan for our dark days, we were equipped with ways to improve them? What if our desire to improve ourselves could be combined with our need to know just what our womb and ovaries are getting up to every month?

Not to mention how to take advantage of the natural superpowers that sit in each phase of our cycle so that we can plan our month to perform at our best.

Maisie Hill is uniquely placed, as an acupuncturist, women's health practitioner and doula, to explain just how we can achieve this as well as focusing on particular milestones that require an altered approach, such as coming off hormonal birth control, infertility, pregnancy, motherhood and the perimenopausal years.

Using what Hill calls 'The Cycle Strategy' - a secret weapon when it comes to improving our relationships, career and health - Hill will give us all the information we need to make sense of our cycles as well as accessible and practical suggestions through which we can improve our physical symptoms and stop berating ourselves because of the way we evolve through each menstrual month.

The self care women really need

This book should be given to all women at the age puberty - it should be taught in schools. I wish I had this information when I was 12 and no one knew what was going on. I absorbed so much from this book.

Everyone who menstruates should read this book!

The knowledge in this book should genuinely become curriculum. If you menstruate, their is knowledge in here that you should know about your body and other menstruaters that you likely have no idea about. I am in my mid-30s, have had my period since I was 9 and had no clue. I’ll admit, it’s long, some parts could have been condensed or even placed in a supporting book and some may not be applicable. Nevertheless, it is an absolute must read!

Highly recommend

Educational, helpful and funny at times. Despite being fairly well educated on reproductive health I still found this book insightful, interesting, and full of new and practical advice.

Emphasis on POWER

Holy guacamole, this was so insightful and empowering! I am grateful to be learning this in my early 30s, and sooooo wish I had been exposed to this in my teens as I was learning to navigate my hormones.
I grew up hearing that “women are sooo moody and/or emotional on/around their period” and said in a way that made it clear that was a negative thing, and I internalized that, suppressing my emotions, especially around my time of the month.
Listening to this I am learning that those thoughts and emotions that seem powerful around my winter are quite likely my intuition and inner voice screaming to be heard, and I get to listen and honour them 🙏💕
This book will be a book on my shelf I revisit regularly!

Good enough.

Does a good enough job of breaking down the female reproductive/menstrual cycle and educating on working with the cycle. That said, I was really turned off by all of the pop culture and female-centric examples. “The Kristin Stewart of your reproductive hormones.”…. I don’t care about pop culture and relating to celebrities and it shouldn’t be assumed that all women can relate to these references. If understanding the science of female hormones is so empowering for women, it shouldn’t be watered down.
