Description

Mistakes were made, okay?

The moment I laid eyes on Kyle Kingston I knew he was a mistake. A satisfying, toe-curling, hair-pulling, best-night-of-my-life mistake, but a mistake all the same. I didn’t yet know his name, or who he was, but I knew he was a bad idea.

I take comfort in that, because it means my instincts are still good. Too late, but it’s something.

Because, FYI, I’m pregnant...

...and did I mention my baby daddy is both heir to a retail empire and impossible to get ahold of?

I do what any girl would. I break into his grandfather’s retirement gala by telling the prissy gatekeeper Kyle’s my fiancé. It was a halfway decent plan at the time, trust me.

But it blows up in my face, disastrously so. You see, Kyle Kingston is all about representing the family values his family’s retail empire was founded on. At least in public. In private - well I’ll tell you about that later.

He proposes - a marriage of convenience.

Convenient for everyone but me, because while I’m falling in love with my convenient husband, he’s keeping a billion-dollar secret. From me.

Plan J

So I thought the plot was okay and I loved the humor and witticisms throughout the story of the chapters I listened to. The female character internalizing thoughts and jumping to the wrong conclusion is par for the course in these kinds of stories. I expected it to be cutesy and an easy listen--at least that was my expectation having read the synopsis and the other reviews. TBH my other and more important expectation was listening to Jason Clarke do his thing. Do his swoony thing, and do that for as many chapters as possible and as long as possible. To recite those words in a manner that somehow elevates any story he narrates--bigtime. I was sorely disappointed on that front. Jason narrated maybe 5 off the 25 chapters.

Now I am not a big fan of Erin Mallon. I hate the breathy elongation of the ending of words that for some reason she chooses to insert in her narration. It's distracting and frankly unnecessary. It doesn't add to the story. It's not dramatic or interesting. It's not engaging or cute. I wish someone would ask her PLUEEZE not to do it. It grates on my nerves and with every announcement of a chapter this annoying habit squandered most of the joy of listening. So, yeah I skipped ALL but three of her chapters but was able to assimilate the gist of the story.

Four stars for performance only due to Jason.

Twin Win!

Okay, to get the whole “twin win” you really have to reference Sure Thing. But this is Daisy’s story. Daisy, I adore you. Kyle, you’re hella hot. The end. No, seriously tho. Daisy meets Kyle on the street. (Not in a prostitute way). Kyle knocks daisy up. Daisy crashes a party to find Kyle. There’s limited drama (serious it’s like 2) and a killa HEA.

Babies- TBD (I’m not spoiling that)
Fat Cats in need of an actual owner- 1. Someone please assume ownership of poor Tubs.
Sexy times - I’m gonna say steam clean worthy. One day, I’ll come up with a better way to rate this. Really, I just have to say *yay*
Twin Wins- 2

The plan was fantastic

So far I've listened to nearly every book by Jana Aston, and none have disappointed me. This one was no different. It was long anticipated for. While it came out on the Kindle first, I was so keen to read it, that I got that first and then the audible edition.

Finally hearing Daisy's story was good too. I love the erratic way her mind works and really Kyle deserves a gold medal for keeping up with her. She is crazy but so loveable, I want to be her. The story was as expected. Listening to two of my favourite narrators was also a bonus. I love Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon, while she took me a while to get used to in the first book I listened to that she had narrated has now become a firm favourite.

One of the things I especially loved about this book was catching up a bit with Luke and Sophie from the first book by Jana. I love it when books bring back characters so you can hear how they are going after their story has finished.

So worth the kindle version and the credit for audible. Even without the credit I would have paid for it. Loved it. Thank you Jana Aston. When will we hear Cannon's story.

Funny surprise baby with so much heart!

Preface by saying I love everything Jana writes and she is a one click author for me. Erin is also my fav but she with Jana is like the perfect combination. She gets the humor and the snarkiness on top of the sexy time. Then you add Jason Clarke and it’s like sigh. He has the most amazing voice that just draws you in. Daisy is independent and her internal dialogue is a laugh fest. Love having characters from her previous books woven in the story because now I need to go back and relisten to their stories. Again. I don’t know how Jana does it but I hope she never stops.

4.5 stars of entertaining goodness!

Spoiler free review...

Owned in dual formats (Kindle / Audible): Yes! Someday, I’d like to go back through my Kindle e-book and do some highlighting. However, this 1st read was 100% via audiobook.

Writing Style: Dual POVs

Cover gush: It has purple in it, and the cover model is rocking that lavender suit like a boss. Enough said!

Worthy of a future re-listen? Without question, yes!

Story: 4 stars - I must be honest and admit straight up that Daisy’s story didn’t grab me right away like her twin sister Violet’s story did. So initially, that fact had me a tad concerned. But it didn’t take long for me to buy into Daisy’s plight. And in the end, I was thoroughly entertained and charmed by how these two soon-to-be parents got deeper and deeper into their romantic union.

Performance ratings: 5 stars for both narrators! Female narrator Erin Mallon proves yet again why she is one of my very top favorite narrators. And, male narrator Jason Clarke is no slouch. He kept up with Erin’s performance level easily. They make a dynamic narrating duo! Keep ’em coming, you two...

Overall reading experience rating: 4.5 stars!

My Personal Recommendation: all romance audiobook junkies should bump this series up on their reading list!

Funny, cute surprise baby daddy book

Yes, we all know this troupe, but I gotta say that Jana Aston did an amazing job with this funny, let your baby daddy know he’s going to be a Papa. I have a lot of Jana’s ebooks but haven’t any time for reading lately and then caught her on one of the Audio Facebook groups live and thought that I had to get me some audiobooks by her. I treated myself to this and another one and throughly enjoyed it. A lot of laughs with this one, I would love to be friends with Daisy she is such a hoot❣️ I really like how Jana developed this story and loved the characters. The narration was amazing but with Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke it would always be AMAZING.

Definitely worth using up a credit on this delightful book

Ps. This was an awesome book as a stand-alone, in fact I didn’t realize it was a series until just now😂

Loved it

Definitely recommend. It’s funny and romantic and a perfect length. Well at least for me. Started around early evening and finished that same night. The audiobook is also perfect. Love the narrators. They never disappoint. A must have! Enjoy!

Not as good as I hoped

If you read book 1, Sure Thing, which I loved, then you probably couldn't wait for Daisy 's story, same as me. However, the beginning of this book is simply a review of the first book but from Daisy 's POV but it's not exciting at all, I could 've literally skipped to chapter 4 and not have missed a beat. I was also disappointed that this book just jumped into fast forward mode so that we didn't get the juicy details of the meet cute. A few flashbacks were added later on about how they first met but it just wasn't the same. If it was toward the beginning and added their actually steamy one night stand scenes I think it would've had a better impact and we would have not only got to know each character a little better but we may also care about them more. I had a hard time caring about either one of them until chapters later when they agreed to their plan. I got over it, but there is no mistaking the fact that that could've be done better. The book does get better once she crashes the party, but then comes my issue with the female narrator because she reads Daisy so fast and at time with lack of emotion and I don't know if it's just trying to be true to her personality type of what but it makes it hard to want to keep listening at times, I guess because it adds to why it's hard to care about Daisy at first, which is weird because in book one I was so interested and wanted to know more about Daisy. IDK. Later into the pregnancy and especially when she discovers his secret my heart felt for her, but those moments were so few and far apart. I was glad when he was finally introduced, I loved him through the entire story and I loved him even more for putting up with her crazy personality and for his final confession which brought the entire story full circle. The sexy scenes were so few at first which was hard to believe because of their hot chemistry, but they did pick up a little bit oddly not after they married. That was weird. Anyway the HEA was truly beautiful and I love how both sisters finally visited each other and the hubbies and kiddos all come together. Sure Thing was surprisingly awesome and I only read it because it was book 1 but I really wanted to read this one first. Now I'm glad I started with book 1 and I wish this book was as good, but it's definitely worth a listen, esp if you already read book 1. Enjoy!
