Histoire
In Searching for Enough, Staton draws on ancient and modern insights to introduce us, as if for the first time, to Jesus' disciple Thomas: history's most notorious skeptic. Like Thomas, we're caught between two unsatisfying stories: We want to believe in God but can't reconcile his presence with our circumstances and internal struggles. But what if there's a better story than shame? What if there's redemption so complete that there's nothing left to hide? What if there's a God who can heal your resentments, fears, and loneliness in such a profound way that you feel whole?

We are constantly being formed by the world around us. To be formed by Jesus will require us to become his apprentice. To live by what the first Christian disciples called a Rule of Life—a set of practices and relational rhythms that slow us down and open up space in our daily lives for God to do what only God can do—transforms the deepest parts of us to become like him.

We are at war. Not with a foreign government or domestic terrorists or a creepy new artificial intelligence hell-bent on taking over the world. No, it’s a war we feel deep inside our own chests: we are at war with lies. The problem isn’t so much that we tell lies but that we live them. We let them into our bodies, and they sabotage our peace.

"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

For much of recent history, individuals and institutions could plan, execute, and flourish with their visions of a better world. Volatile, complex forces could be addressed and confronted with planning and management. But crisis is a great revealer. It knocks us off our thrones. It uncovers the weaknesses in our strategies and brings to light our myths and idols. Our past strategies run aground, smashed by unpredictable and chaotic waves. Yet in the midst of the chaos of a crisis comes opportunity.

We long for a good life, a beautiful life, a kind life. But clearly that’s not the world we live in. How did we lose goodness, kindness, and beauty? And more important, how do we get them back into our lives? These are the two questions crying out in our streets, homes, churches, and from deep within our souls. Pastor and author Rich Villodas is convinced that only Jesus offers a way of being human that is both strong and tender enough to tear down the walls of hostility we experience daily.

God Has a Name is a simple yet profound guide to understanding God in a new light - focusing on what God says about himself. This one shift has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way. In God Has a Name, John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8 - Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai, one of the most quoted passages in the Bible.

In the beginning, God created Adam. Then he made Eve. And ever since we've been picking up the pieces. Loveology is just that - a theology of love. With an autobiographical thread that turns an audiobook into a story, pastor and speaker John Mark Comer shares about what is right in male/female relationships - what God intended in the Garden. And about what is wrong - the fallout in a post-Eden world. Loveology starts with marriage and works backward.

We live in a time when our culture is becoming increasingly shallow, coarse, and empty. Radical shifts in the areas of sexuality, ethics, technology, secular ideologies, and religion have caused the once-familiar landscape of a generation ago to be virtually unrecognizable. Yet rather than shine as a beacon of light, the church often is silent or accommodating. This isn’t a new phenomenon. During World War II, pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was deeply troubled by the compromise in the German church.

Dan Allender's lyrical book about the Sabbath expels the myriad myths about this "day of rest," starting with the one that paints the Sabbath as a day of forced quiet, spiritual exercises, and religious devotion and attendance. This, he says, is at odds with the ancient tradition of Sabbath as a day of delight for both body and soul. Instead, the only way we can make use of the Sabbath is to see God's original intent for the day with new eyes. In Sabbath, Allender builds a case for delight by looking at this day as a festival that celebrates God's re-creative, redemptive love.

During our chaotic times, discover five forgotten values that can spark internal growth and help us reconcile our Christian faith with the complexities of race, sexuality, and social justice. Most believers live in the state of "being a Christian" without ever being deeply formed by Christ. Our pace is too frenetic to be in union with God, and we don't know how to quiet our hearts and minds to be present. Our emotions are unhealthy and compartmentalized.

Description
An invitation to an ordinary yet radical way of life, using historic Christian practices as both inspiring vision and practical instruction for how to encounter the wondrous, mysterious, living God through prayer.
Prayer is the source of Jesus's most astonishing miracles and the subject of Jesus's most audacious promises, and yet, most people—even most Bible-believing Christians—find prayer to be boring, obligatory, disappointing, confusing, or, most often, all of the above.
If you've ever felt this way, Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools is your invitation to trade your conceptions and misconceptions about prayer for prayer in its purest form: a vital, sustaining, powerful connection with God that is more real and alive than you could have ever imagined. Here, Tyler Staton—author, pastor, and national director of the 24/7 Prayer movement—addresses common roadblocks to prayer and gives you the confidence to come to God just as you are.
Through biblical teaching, powerful storytelling, and insights on historic Christian practices, Staton helps you . . .
- Express your doubts and disappointments about prayer
- Discover and practice multiple postures of prayer, including silence, persistence, confession, and more
- Understand and embrace the wonder and mystery of prayer in everyday life
- Realize that prayer is a powerful invitation to partner with God in the redemption of a fallen world
- And, ultimately, open or reopen the line of communication with your Creator and experience afresh his divine power on earth

Fantastic content
The pros:
The content is practical, meaningful, and inspiring. I felt myself longing for a revitalized prayer life. I listened to the audiobook, then immediately ordered a print copy so I can read over it more carefully, make notes, etc. I haven’t read a book like this in a long, long time. Absolutely recommend.
The cons:
Vocal fry, super-slow reading (better at 1.2x or 1.3x speed), and a habit of pronouncing “prayer” with two syllables rather than one make the audiobook a challenging listen. The slow reading & “pray-er” are easily overlooked. The vocal fry… almost a deal breaker for anyone who habitually listens to professional speakers and narrators. If the content wasn’t so good, I couldn’t have made it through. The content IS so good, though, so stick with it!

Convicting
Sound, solid teaching & instruction with examples that are honest & raw. I appreciated Staton's calm writing & reading style that felt like the Spirit was flowing throughout (although I did speed it up as it was a tad too drawn in places). Even though prayer is not at all new to me, I am looking forward to adding the suggested disciplines into my regular practice. It would have been helpful if a PDF copy came with the purchase for further gleaning!

Praying like monks, living like fools.
Be brutally honest with God. Amen. Be brutally honest with myself and acknowledge that I'm what's wrong with the world. Amen. The name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth means His authority, His status as the Son of our Abba Father God. Prioritize presence. Amen. Remember who God is, and remember who all of us are. Amen. This is a wonderfully performed book. The story is even a bit of a tear jerker. Tim, I'd recognise your voice anywhere. Thank you Mr. Staton for writing this. It's awesome. You're awesome.
