really enjoyed it, but was a little disappointed that the next book was not about her sister.

And I really NEED the next book to be up soon.

Wait for it... it gets good

I have to admit, the first chapter or two about lost me, I’m not sure if it was the narrators getting their rhythm going or the story that had to get going.
However, once I got oriented to this particular World and the characters, I became intrigued and entertained. Definitely worth it.

Same Story, Same Characters

Why is it that every female protagonist in this kind of story has the same personality (stubborn, quick to anger, kind of dumb)?

This book actually had potential—there is some good writing scattered intermittently throughout, and it is, at times, funny. Really wish the author had leaned into the humor more. And really wish the author hadn’t given her female lead this same, tired, frustrating personality.

The characters are enemies at first and then they’re just…not. There’s no real transition into love. They’re just all of a sudden head over heels. And don’t even get me started on the rather unnecessary overtures of rapeyness from some of the bad guys.

The dialogue is stilted, the magic system vague, and the curse itself confusing. Lara’s voice, which the books description makes sound like it’s a central plot point, barely figures into much of anything, and don’t even get me started on the weird fixation a lot of fantasy/romance writers have on red hair, pale skin, and green eyes (POC don’t exist at all in a lot of these books).

Also, a minor thing, but the book is written with a bunch of Britishisms, but both narrators are American. Made some things sound strange (ex. calling cabinets cupboards, saying ‘meant to’ instead of ‘supposed to’, etc.).

Look, I went into this expecting an easy, fun read, not a literary masterpiece. But honestly the same annoying tropes over and over again gets frustrating, and makes it so that I’m just irritated while listening. At least have the creativity to try something new.

One good thing I can say is that the male narrator is quite good. Would listen to more of him.

a fun adventure

the story is set in another world the author does well in describing it. "I love it" it is, just like they say at the beginning, a movie in your mind LOL.

Five star story, but the execution was a bit lackluster.

The story is a five star story, but as a listener whom is also reading the story at the same time on kindle am quite disappointed that when there's singing there's no real singing. I also have noticed that the spicy parts have been completely redacted from the audiobook which takes away completely from the immersion. I will definitely be rereading the actual book without the audiobook. Either put all of the book into the audiobook or don't make the audiobook at all. That is a hill I am willing to stand on.

Abysmal

Here’s a hint: If you are going to write a story and the main character is known for her beautiful bell-like singing voice, then why oh why wouldn’t you have a narrator who can sing? Totally lost me early on when the main female sings a witchy song to her co-worker after telling us how important music and singing is to her, and then explaining that many people enjoy her beautiful voice. The narrator then massacres what was supposed to be a song with a raspy, weird, disjointed spoken rendering.

I can’t forgive and I couldn’t forget. I made it to chapter three, then the guy kind of does the same thing. A big nope for me.

Amazing!

This book is so good!! I only wish the others were audiobooks too so I could listen while I work. But this book is one of my new favorites!!

Absolutely amazing

Definitely worth the read. Omg this had me dying laughing throughout the book. It was so beautifully written and the narration was great too. Highly recommend.

Teen friendly

I have a problem with audible, why on earth is it so hard to find good smut appropriate for adults?
I don't mean erotica, I mean a good fantasy book with nice world building, nice characters and good steamy scenes rated R.
I really got this book thinking I might find something similar to Sarah J Mass, but nope, the romantic scene was non-existent after all that build up.
I won't even finish this book, :/ not your target audience.
Anyway, if you are young and want a plain romance scene, prob you'll like it :p
