RJ Spencer is a lucky 12-year-old. He lives in the big city and his parents are landlords of the high-rise apartment building that is his home.
The many tenants in the building, along with the endless possibilities of adventures in the city itself, are the perfect setting for the young detective as he sets out to solve every case he can get his hands on.

At first, some of the mysterious often seem to have a fantastic element, for example, in the second story the main characters, two boys named RJ and Joey, think there is a vampire in the apartment building, but when the mystery is solved there is always a logical conclusion. Spoiler: it wasn’t a vampire, it was an injured owl that got trapped in the attic.
Sometimes RJ and Joey make questionable decisions, like going into places they shouldn’t, but those made good conversation starters for my daughter and I about making safe decisions.
Other series by P.J. Ryan have better continuity. This series introduces characters that are never heard from again, unlike the Rebekah Girl Detective Summer Camp series or the Rebekah Girl Detective Fifth Grade Mysteries series. At age seven she still listens to these books while in the car for long drives or doing quiet crafting actives.
My daughter is a huge fan of Gwendolyn Druyor, she has listened to many kid series narrated by her. In this audiobook there is an editing error where you can hear Druyor reading through the same few lines a couple of times each.
