In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

Developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader. A good strategy is a specific and coherent response to - and approach for - overcoming the obstacles to progress. A good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect. Yet, Rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate Mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy”.

Mainly for Senior Managers
- Écrit par Ryan Floyd le 2019-05-25
Description
How do you inspire a diverse team to work together, going all out in pursuit of a single, challenging goal? How do you get your team to commit to bold goals? How do you stay motivated despite setbacks and disappointments? And what do you do when it looks like you're headed for failure? In Radical Focus, Christina Wodtke combines her hard earned experience as an executive at Zynga, Linkedin and many of Silicon Valley's hottest companies to answer those questions. It's not about to-do lists and accountability charts. It's about creating a framework for regular check-ins, key results, and most of all, the beauty of a good fail - and how to take a temporary disaster and turn it into a future success.
In this book, Wodtke takes you through the fictional case study of Hanna and Jack, who are struggling to survive in their own startup. They fight shiny object syndrome, losing focus, and dealing with communication issues. After hard lessons, they learn the practical steps they need to take to do what must be done. The second half of the book demonstrates how to use objectives and key results (OKRs) to help teams realize big goals in a methodical way, leaving nothing to chance. Laid out in a practical but compelling way, she makes the lessons of Hanna and Jack's story clear and actionable.
Ready to move your team in the right direction? Listen to this, and learn the system of creating your focus - and finding success.

Too Short to Give Much
dont get me wrong its not a bad book, it just was not long enough to learn anything from. I listened to measure what matters and thought this would be a good listen to supplement it. after listening I dont find it covered anything better than "the source material" (measure what matters) did. in short if you havent read measure what matters this wont give you enough information to understand okrs. if you have read measure what matters you dont need to read this book.

Good book, took a while to get to the point
The book made an excellent case for the OKR process and I liked how it started off with a compelling story. My only minor complaint is that the story took a little long to get to the point. Overall, an excellent book to understand how to bring focus to a business/organization and keep things on track. I would definitely recommend this book to others and I'm looking forward to implementing the OKR process in my organization.

Tedious

A concise run through OKRs.
When getting your brain around OKRs, this is a worthy listen and I actually welcomed the fact that it was far less repetitive than the longer, and so much more name droppy, Measure What Matters. Both are helpful. The most helpful is just getting knee deep in a OKRs for a few quarters. But this book will help you identify some potholes and plan for a more simplified on-ramp as starting and succeeding is not as easy as it can seem.

Excellent treatment of OKRs
In about 3 1/2 hours, this book presents the key elements of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). Not everyone is a fan of the "business novel" concept (such as Eliyahu Goldratt's The Goal), but I enjoy that style from time to time. This book actually is two short books in one ... an engaging business fable and an excellent, concise presentation of the use of OKRs. If you're not a fan of business novels, the second half of the book is well worth the purchase price.

This great book takes you trough a detailed explanation on OKRs, that leads to insight and further to execution. First part of the book is written in a fun novel style - the last part has hands on OKR models to use. Nice chapter on OKRs in product development. Great book!
