Description

Forgive and forget? In this twisty thriller of psychological suspense, the past and present collide for two sisters who survived a tragedy - and must now survive the truth behind it.

It’s been twenty years since Cara’s boyfriend died in a horrible accident and her sister, Anna, went to prison. The tragedy has become a local legend, but Cara has moved past her grief to have a successful career and a happy family. Pity about Anna. Recently released from incarceration, she’s struggling with addiction, guilt, and shame - a shattered life. Cara’s forgiveness seems to be the only thing that helps her pick up the pieces.

But as Anna pulls herself together, her memories of that night on the bridge start to come into focus. And few of them match her sister’s.

As past secrets unfold and nothing is what it seems anymore, Anna desperately searches for the truth. But what if Cara doesn’t want her to find it?

Should be called “Sins of Her Sister” (or something equivalent)

Geezus, this was literally a story about an evil, vicious, bitter, selfish, righteous, devious, heartless, manipulative, jealous, resentful, fake and beyond unlikable woman named Cara and her sister Anna. But Cara was soooo despicable it kind of ruined the book and I was not content with the ending, but it was somewhat fitting for the story.
Randomly I noticed that in the story, any desk person at any institution or place of business (i.e. nurse at the nurse’s station, the person checking IDs at a mental health facility etc) the author portrays them as contemptuous, incompetent, grumpy, lowly workers— which was strange, she made every character so negative.
Cara is horrid in every single area of her life: at work, with her parents, sister, husband— she is a professional at throwing people under the bus for her own gain.
I don’t really know how I feel about this book because I’m so disgusted with the main character and her behavior and this story was plausible and believable so it was hard to get in the mind of someone that could possibly exist— I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing, the ability to write and bring to life such a believable and evil character. For example if this book was a movie, whomever they pick to play Cara, you would very likely hate her as an actress from then on, even in other roles, the character just has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. There is a balance between that and an overall good plot and I think it was pushed too much to one side.
If you don’t mind or can tolerate all the pettiness, unfairness of some people’s circumstance maybe you might like the book.

Not my cup of tea.

Depressing. I couldn't identify with the main character. Story was not believable. Just left me with a bad feeling.

Good narration but the story not so much

First off it takes half a chapter for Cara to respond to anything. Asked a question and the author talks about everything but the answer to that question as she uses that time to give background on something. It happened so many times I kept expecting it. It only took a few pages to see Cara as a self preserving creep. The author spent over half the book showing us how much so before the story even got moving. I kept falling asleep and then rewinding to find my place. It was very predictable.

This line said optional but is really required.

Not my kind of story. Only listened because it was free. Thanks for asking. I guess I need a few more words in order for this app to accept my review. Sorry, didn't mean to break the rules. I hope I've typed enough words. I really hate doing reviews. This is one reason why.

Disappointed

I was intrigued at the beginning of the book but as it drew on the expectation for more left me disappointed at the end. Very let down for conclusions.

Unsatisfying

Nothing I can say that won’t be a spoiler. But the ending was misinformed and unsatisfying.

I skipped ahead often!

The performance was really good but the story was a little boring and the end very predictable. I skipped several chapters because I could anticipate the main character’s narcissistic thoughts.

Narcissistic Lead

It’s fitting that this is told in 1st person narrative because the main character is me, me, me, I, I, I! I literally wanted someone to smack some sense into her. Alas I don’t know if that makes this writer a genius or not but it does keep you interested.

So bad but I could not stop listening

Some of the wording and the narration was cringe-worthy but at the same time I could not stop listening. I guess this is one of those things that is like a guilty pleasure or so bad it's good.
