Description

One of the start-up world’s most in-demand executive coaches - hailed as the “CEO Whisperer” (Gimlet Media) - reveals why radical self-inquiry is critical to professional success and healthy relationships in all realms of life.

Jerry Colonna helps start-up CEOs make peace with their demons, the psychological habits and behavioral patterns that have helped them to succeed - molding them into highly accomplished individuals - yet have been detrimental to their relationships and ultimate well-being. Now, this venture capitalist turned executive coach shares his unusual yet highly effective blend of Buddhism, Jungian therapy, and entrepreneurial straight talk to help leaders overcome their own psychological traumas. Reboot is a journey of radical self-inquiry, helping you to reset your life by sorting through the emotional baggage that is holding you back professionally and, even more important, in your relationships.

Jerry has taught CEOs and their top teams to realize their potential by using the raw material of their lives to find meaning, to build healthy interpersonal bonds, and to become more compassionate and bold leaders. In Reboot, he inspires everyone to hold themselves responsible for their choices and for the possibility of truly achieving their dreams.

Work does not have to destroy us. Work can be the way in which we achieve our fullest self, Jerry firmly believes. What we need, sometimes, is a chance to reset our goals and to reconnect with our deepest selves and with each other. Reboot moves and empowers us to begin this journey.

Wow.

Jerry Colonna is such a wonderful storyteller. I was moved, enlightened, and left a different person thanks to this book. I don’t think my review can really do it justice as I found this to be a book I wish I found when younger... but happy it came to me when it did. Such a beautiful writer and love that the audiobook is in the authors own voice. Loved it and will read again!

Visceral

This book touched so many points I connected with. If you are an entrepreneur, it’s a must. If you had a trouble d childhood, it’s a must. Otherwise, it’s a must.

This is a story

This is a story of a man's journey and it is told very well. It is extremely hopeful. And I would love the leaders I know to hear it.
For me it lacked tools I can use. Or maybe I just missed it, or cannot read between the lines.

The performance was good, a very lulling but attentive voice.

Yet, it is a fantastic story which makes one feel. For a 7 hour audiobook, it just blew by. I look forward to more from Jerry Colonna.

For those who wish to be better leaders

Great book if you do the journaling invitations and be honest with yourself. Jerry uses stories from his own life and from his coaching with others to guide you to answering the questions that most of us have in life. He uses his life as examples and shares the answers he found to those questions. The book is personable and this is a book where the audio version is probably better than printed as you hear the emotion behind Jerry's words.

Highly recommended!

Absolutely Incredible!

Every now and again you come across a “gold coin” as I like to say for someone, an event, or a thing that changes the trajectory of your life; this is a Gold Coin that I would encourage anyone to pick up and pocket. This is not just for CEO’s or business folk, but simply for humans who are just trying to make their way. Thank you for this Gold Coin Mr. Colonna. May your words and Being continue to bless all those that encounter either. Many blessings to you!

Just not my thing....

Jerry Colonna is obviously a well accomplished VC entrepreneur/Coach but this just isn't my style. The whole answer a question with a question thing is a bit of a cop out. "Great humans make great leaders" doesn't seem to be that big of a revelation to me.

I'm probably being a bit too hard on the book. I was very excited to read/listen and it's just kind of left me feeling "meh". I know our childhood plays a much larger role in our development than most people probably believe, but he seems to spend an inordinate amount of time on it. A tree he climbed when he was 10 was chopped down and he's still crying about it 40 years later?!?!?!?! However, I'm kind of an a-hole. I'll re-listen in a few months and give it another chance.

An empathetic and vulnerable look at leadership

Jerry Colonna’s work is a gift to anyone looking to become a more thoughtful, wholesome leader. He challenges us to understand our past so that we can move forward with a new story.

You won’t get a tactical roadmap to becoming a leader in 90 days or less. Instead, you’ll get something more meaningful, more nuanced. Something a bit more like leadership itself.

Completely self-indulgent

What an empty scam of a book...

Giant nothing burger and obvious vanity project. Incredible.

This book cracked me wide open

As a former HR director and Director of a Nonprofit I recommend this book to all those looking to grow in their leadership and self. As the now CEO of only me I recommend this book to all who are looking to open their heart and get on the pathless path they were meant for. I can’t recommend this one enough. I will be listening to it again.

What a brilliant book

It’s a great book, but I’d say it’s a bit early for me. I believe the lifecycle of a human consists of three main stages:
1) Just living (childhood)
2) Striving (adulthood)
3) True belonging (wisdom)

Many people never grow out of Stage 1. They just live, without purpose, without goals, without testing their metal. Some get stuck in Stage 2, but mistaken their false grit for true grit and spend most of their lives trapped in a never-ending cycle of “busyness”. And only those who have evolved from just living, experienced both false and true grit - can find their true belonging and zen. Skipping Stage 2 altogether or spending very little time in it, or hopping over it prematurely - will rob you of fully understanding what true belonging is. And bearing in mind that this book is all about true belonging, I think it needs to come with the caveat that one shouldn’t find zen (true belonging), until they have properly experienced true grit.

do not waste your time terrible book

I thought this was going to be a business book about leadership and it turns out to be the author's story of himself growing up. Yes he has some inner moments but nothing to really learn here. plus he whispers through the entire book which makes it equally annoying

Refund (not Reboot)

What is this book? Soooo slow, both in the narration and the story line. I was listening while driving (at 1.25x) and over and over I kept asking myself “what on Earth is he even talking about?” The author waffles on endlessly about God knows what. I couldn’t get a single piece of actionable advice in the first hour, I couldn’t keep wasting my time, I’ll be refunding this rambling text.

Worst reader ever

The content is okay, but the reader is horrible. I have gone through a lot of audibles, and this is the worst reader ever. Weird voice and boring.

A Must Listen...

If you’re a startup founder or ambitious person do yourself a favor and get this book now. Ambition can be a heavy load to carry and Jerry’s love, generosity and experience can help lighten your load. This book has helped me think more deeply about my life and uncover the obstacles I’ve placed in my way. There are tons of self-help books out there and I hesitate to call this one bc it’s not filled with false directions of how to live your life. Instead, it gives you questions and a helpful way to think about your life so you can discover YOUR OWN PATH. I’d also highly recommend his podcast Reboot.
