Description

Recovering Redemption. What does it mean? Recovering: Getting back, restoring. Redemption: God’s plan of salvation, the gospel. Because we have a tendency to drift from the gospel, we must be reoriented back to the gospel. We must recover a right understanding and application of the gospel. We must see that the gospel is the fuel for salvation and sanctification and the panacea to fix all things. The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9 I can’t. God can. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 God meets you where you are. But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Matt Chandler should have narrated it.

Overall, this was a good book. There’s a lot of substance in it and in the sentences that were used by the authors.

I may have a biased opinion because I listen to Matt Chandler’s sermons on podcast, but I think that he could have read it to us so much better to put the emphasis on the right words and so that it would flow with passion.

The beginning was read more like a story I find, which I found was a bit off but the tone, in my opinion, should be somewhat of a confident, commanding, and convicting.

I noticed a significant change around the second half of the book where the narration style picked up more with passion and conviction and the narration pace was slightly faster which resonated better with the way the book was written.

The content is great and really helpful to living like a disciple and becoming more Christ-like and a big focus on eliminating worries. I’d like to have it in hard copy to be able to highlight some of the memory verses that were given away.
