Histoire
Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex's sister and her family. It's a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has been there only a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.

When Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are called to London, North Dakota, they instantly sense that the thriving fracking town is ripe for trouble. The promise of a second gold rush has attracted an onslaught of newcomers all hoping for a windfall, and the community is growing faster than houses can be built. The sudden boom has also brought a slew of problems with it, including drugs, property crimes, prostitution - and now murder.

Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman execution style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself. Even with Decker's extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter - a family man with a successful consulting business - and his victim, a schoolteacher.

It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

Description
Detective Amos Decker discovers that a mistake he made as a rookie detective may have led to deadly consequences in the latest Memory Man thriller in David Baldacci's number-one New York Times best-selling series.
Amos Decker and his FBI partner Alex Jamison are visiting his hometown of Burlington, Ohio, when he's approached by an unfamiliar man. But he instantly recognizes the man's name: Meryl Hawkins. He's the first person Decker ever arrested for murder back when he was a young detective.
Though a dozen years in prison have left Hawkins unrecognizably aged and terminally ill, one thing hasn't changed: He maintains he never committed the murders. Could it be possible that Decker made a mistake all those years ago? As he starts digging into the old case, Decker finds a startling connection to a new crime that he may be able to prevent, if only he can put the pieces together quickly enough....
Number one most popular audiobook in public libraries in 2019.
Most popular fiction audiobook on Apple Books in 2019.
Ce que les critiques en disent
"A star performance by Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy should push this audiobook to the top of every thriller fan's must list.... Brewer owns Decker's intensity. He gives the character great focus and a steely resolve... Cassidy tackles every female character with precision and care. Her take on Mary Lancaster, Decker's former partner, showcases her abilities with the pregnant pause and perfect pacing. Together they create a presentation second to none and provide supercharged entertainment." (AudioFile Magazine)

I love Amos Decker!
What a compelling detective series. Every time I think I have it all figured out, I find out I’m completely wrong. I love that! If they ever make this into a movie, I hope Vincent D’Onofrio plays Amos - I pictured him all the way through. I hope this isn’t the last Decker book. Please write him some more!

More Orlagh Cassidy narration horrors
I will never listen to another audiobook involving narration of any of the characters by Orlagh Cassidy. The characters she narrates for are limited to some crusty old redneck woman who smokes but is of indeterminate age. And dialogue between her character and the main character is hackneyed and totally predictable in every occurrence. She has made the Memory Man series a no fly zone for me.

Like cordwood the bodies stack up...
This is the 5th book in the Amos Decker series. Each book can be read/listened to as a stand alone but I would suggest listening to book one first for background on Amos. Not necessary, just a suggestion. This book begins with Decker visiting the cemetery where his murdered family is buried. A man Decker is responsible for getting convicted approaches. He's on the verge of death and wants to tell Decker one last time that he did not commit the crimes he was sent to prison for. This time Decker believes him. The man has no reason to lie at this point. When Decker goes to see him once more the man has been murdered. Why? He would probably only have lived another week if he was lucky. And so Decker's investigation begins. Unfortunately for Decker there's a major problem. Every time he speaks to someone who might have information vital to clearing the dead man and catching the person who actually committed the murders, that person winds up dead. More than once Decker is targeted and purely by chance the attempts on his life go awry. Because this is a personal crusade for Decker his partner in the FBI isn't allowed to assist him. Instead Decker receives help from a man who had been on death row for 20 years. Decker had known him from his football days and was able to prove his innocence for a long ago crime This book is fast paced and completely captivating. There are quite a few characters with conflicting stories and almost as many bodies. I did not find anything about this book predictable. You think you know but then you don't. David Baldacci continues to write books worth reading. I have been reading his books since he began his writing career and he continues to get better. Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy make a great narration team. This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. If you found this review helpful please indicate so. Thank You.

Magnificant!
Memory Man Amos Decker is back for the 5th novel in the series. This is a detective series that cannot be understood without listening to the first novel in the series first. Now an FBI special agent Amos Decker is back in his Ohio home town seeking to redeem a mistake he made 13 years ago in sending the wrong man to jail. The bodies just keep piling up in REDEMPTION as the case become more and more difficult for Decker and his old detective partner. The outcome is near impossible to predict. Baldacci has another major winner with this novel. Kyf Brewer's narration is superb. Orlagh Cassidy is also an outstanding narrator who is great with accents, but she continues to use a Southern rather than Midwestern accent in this series.

Awful
Worst Baldacci book I've ever endured, it goes on and on and on and the on. I finished it only because I had so much time invested. Lost interest about chapter fifty, I pressed on to complete the 82 chapter marathon. It was awful. Baldacci has written some amazing books and I've really enjoyed them, This one however, is so overly complicated it's boring beyond belief.

Least liked of the series!
This was not the typical Amos Decker adventure. It was slow moving, and had too many characters to develop. What I liked about it was that Amos finally got in touch with his feelings and began to show compassion and empathy. But other than that, it really does not come close to the preceding books. It took me a long time to finish it and many times I felt like just stopping to read something else. I was very disappointed.

Cheesy dialogue. Great story
Same old Baldacci product. Amazing story, but cheesy, unrealistic dialogue. The female voices were awful. For a story that takes place in Ohio, the females all sound like citizens from a trailer park in Alabama. Also, Melvin's character is wimped out. This is my last Baldacci book. I can't take any more.
