Quality Book Let Down By Narration

Howard Fast presents a fairly pedestrian crime - the murder of an unscrupulous Wall Street "player" and trial of his abused ex-wife. The author makes it more intriguing with interesting characters: a retired Law Professor in love with the suspect, an aggressive Public Defender/Defense Attorney, and realistic police/prosecutors/judge.
The dialogue overall isn't great and case details are pretty "ho-hum", but Fast provides intuitive strategy/tactics and well-scripted courtroom interactions. I found myself emotionally invested in the outcome.

Unfortunately, Christopher Kipiniak provides some of the worst narration that I have heard in a long time. Besides reading waaaaaay too slowly (this audiobook is only really tolerable at 1.25X), the woeful overenunciation and truly weak voice-acting merely leave Kipiniak's painfully squeaky natural sibilance as *the most* noticeable deficiency (avoid earbuds if you value your cochleas). I implore you to listen to the sample before downloading the book (or stick to a text copy).

Altogether, 'Redemption' rates a reasonable 5.5 stars out of 10. It would be worth far more with a better reader, but we have what we have. As it stands, it's not crazy to download it as a 'Plus' selection.. but spending a Credit on it would be straight-up foolish.
