Description

Claire Gracen's life is picture perfect. Her career as a marketing director is on the brink of being legendary, and her marriage to her high school sweetheart has never been stronger. No, wait. It has. It used to be amazing and fulfilling, but one day Claire realizes that she's been living a lie and her best friend and husband have committed the ultimate betrayal. Broken and depressed, Claire is in need of something new - new city, new job, new friends. When she happens to attract the interest of the sexiest man she's ever met, a man significantly younger than her, she immediately turns him down - only to later discover that this man is Jonathan Statham, self-made billionaire and CEO of Statham Industries. Her boss.

Jonathan Statham is unlike any man she's met before. He's used to getting whatever he wants - whenever he wants, and he isn't about to take no for an answer.

Great context of older woman, younger man

Give me a read about forty-somethings and I'm in, it's such a tangible, refreshing context for me. I felt totally engaged with MID LIFE LOVE because it also included a favourite setting of mine....office romance. This book is about a 40 year old divorcee who has lost herself in her heartache of the last 4 years. Claire is incredulous at the attentions of Jonathan Statham, her 28 year old boss and CEO of the company. She cannot understand his attraction to her and thwarts each of his approaches.

This book is rich with fabulous side characters in Claire's daughters, they made me laugh and brought such tangibility to the storyline. I never felt like I knew where the story was going and this was such fun to devour. The many twists and turns kept me hooked even though I felt the last 5% was rushed. All the characters were well developed and the writing just flowed. I need more from these two and I hope my desire is fulfilled

Good But ...

OMG, could the male narrator have been any worse? It’s s good story and the female narrator was great but the male part sounded like he was just learning how to read! Painful!!

I hate the female lead

She would have to be one of the worse females ever. Why on earth any guy would try and want her is unbelievable. What a joke when she calls Jonathon immature, she really needs to look in the mirror.

Annoying heroine

Honestly I liked it until the last 1/3 - the heroine was SUCH a wimp.... and totally unable to grow a backbone or communicate. Yeah, there's a 'happily ever after', but her inability to handle her own feelings was a huge turn off and made the end of the book extremely difficult to actually get to.

Entertaining and well written characters

This is a good story and worth reading; however, I probably skipped forward more than an hour during the last 1/3 of the book. The ending was really expanded and very repetitive. With that being said, don't skip past more than 2 or 3 minutes as you could miss important information (squeezed in between repeated angst).

Reading the second book now! This author personalizes the characters and you feel like you know them.

resistance is futile

I love Whitney G.'s writing style. This book is AMAZING...it's massively underrated amongst Whitney's other books. An age gap romance and so much more, the writing, plot and dialogue is superb. CJ and August delivered a good performance.

if you like pathetic, whiney females...

The last third of the book was awful. I kept fast forwarding. The female character was immature, whiny and terrible. The male narrator's voice was not right for this at all and was truly cringe-worthy.

Too long for such a thin story

This is a fairytale for older woman- the kind where you suspend disbelief because otherwise it’s just so preposterous and eye-roll inducing.

I dont get why the hero instalurves the heroine - we are just told that he does. Practically the first half of the book is him having his way with her anywhere he wants - on the dance floor on their first night out, all around the office, sometimes with colleagues nearby, you name it. He gets her even when she isn’t really comfortable about it. So fun! NOT.

The end scene is really cringe-worthy — it just crushes my spirit to read about a heroine who willingly submits herself to be humiliated so publicly during her her pathetic chase for a man’s affection.

Suffice it to say I am not reading the second book.

I wasn't a huge fan of Claire when I listened to Hailey's story but I wanted to know more about her backstory with Jonathan.

It took me a long time to finish this audio because I didn't care much for the narrators and I never warmed up to Claire. More often than not, I thought Jonathan could do better. I'm hoping the extended epilogue shows that Claire actually is a good fit for him.
