À propos de cet audio

For fans of moody and escapist psychological thrillers such as Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley or the new Audible Original The Chateau, this is your next suspenseful listen.

Step into the hauntingly beautiful world of Resort by Oli Isaac–a fractured and surreal drama that blurs the lines between reality and illusion.

Clara, a mystery shopper scraping by in London, is a compulsive chameleon, more comfortable playing a role than she is in her own skin. A once-in-a-career opportunity to review a luxury resort pairs her with a faux fiancé—Avery—and introduces her to a rarefied world of wealth and reinvention. Amid seductive opulence and the shadows of past lies, Clara faces a chilling question: Can you ever truly escape yourself?

Starring Phia Saban (House of the Dragon), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders, Bad Sisters), and Charlotte Ritchie (You), Resort is a slow-burn, mesmerizing audio experience across twelve chapters. Directed by Julia Head with sound design by Mikhail Fiksel, the team behind Massive.

Playwright Oli Isaac was awarded a commission through the Audible Emerging Playwrights Fund, an initiative dedicated to developing innovative original plays driven by language and voice. As an Audible-commissioned playwright, they received funding and creative support to develop Resort.

The writing starts out great and so does the performance. However, as the book goes on the performance was still good but the sound effects were ridiculously loud. The story became way out there in the last couple chapters which is too bad because I really enjoyed it up to then. It felt like the writer ran out of time to finish the book and just ended it or something.

This book was just weird. It could have been good

No need for all the background noises the ocean the wind interrupts and I have to back it up just so I can hear the voices

I don’t know why they add the music and all the noises you can’t hear some of the voices

I really wanted to enjoy Resort—the premise had the potential to be genuinely interesting—but the listening experience was almost impossible to get through. The constant background music and intrusive sound effects drowned out the narrator to the point where I could barely hear what was being said.

It felt like watching an accident happen in slow motion: you want to look away, but you keep hoping it will somehow get better. Unfortunately, it never did. If the production had simply let the story speak for itself, this could have been an engaging listen. Instead, the overwhelming noise made it frustrating and exhausting.

With clearer narration and far less audio clutter, this might have been a completely different experience. As it is, I can’t recommend the audiobook in its current form.

Turn down the sound effects please

This is a mixed bag. The chemistry and performance between the two leads is the most interesting part, but the narrative steers towards Clara's journey to keep reinventing herself. This journey opens a few doors (particularly near the end), but the audiobook was too short to fully explore where those possibilities go

White Lotus meets psychological thriller

I'm all for an unlikable protagonist, but for that to really work there needs to be depth. This is the most flat, shallow, least likable unlikable protagonist I've ever seen. The ending was a relief.

nope.
