Description

From New York Times best-selling author Samantha Towle comes an unexpected love story between two unlikeliest of people....

A new town. A new identity. Pregnant and alone. And far away from a past that can never find me.

River Wild. Moody. Sullen. Jerk. And my new neighbor.

I have no interest in befriending River. And he definitely doesn’t want to be befriended by me.

Then, he helps me rescue an abandoned dog. And that day, I see something in his eyes that reflects back in my own. Sadness. Pain. Loneliness.

I know all of those things well.

An unwanted and unexpected friendship that somehow works. Then, without warning, it turns into something more.

River and I both have our secrets, and that’s okay. Because I understand him. And he understands me.

For the first time in my life, I have something I never thought I would have - happiness.

But happiness isn’t forever. Not for people like me.

Especially not when my past is waiting just around the corner, ready to come and take it all away.

Good story

I liked this one and I would recommend it with some caveats.
First it should be noted that the chapters read by Sebastian York are almost entirely set in the past. They are also chapters containing some difficult to hear or read situations. I often had to switch to reading them because it was easier to handle so I ended up missing out on that delicious voice. I also feel like this meant we missed out on hearing the character's point of view on his present day situation.
Second, both characters have seriously messed up, sad backgrounds. While their histories are partially or wholly the reason they end up in the same place, I am not entirely sure they were completely necessary. Sometomes it felt like tradegy porn.
Again I want to stress that I did enjoy the story there were just a few things that niggled at me.

Oh my heart

This is a heartbreaking yet beautiful story. I loved Carrie and River and how they were able to learn to love and live again. Definitely will listen to again. Narration was wonderful as well.

Unexpected Intensity Will Keep U Captivated

Wholly fudgesicles, I was so NOT prepared by the intensity that would literally make my heart pound and yet hold my breath. I actually had this title be "kinda accidentally" chosen while reading the description, while my husband had leaned over in the car and his hand brushed the "select" button. I went with it anyways and just hit "confirm".
I don't generally select titles with this level of pain, darkness, intensity and much dispair. I need a happy, peppy, lovey, (sometimes kinda filthy) storyline. So, if you have those similar tastes...you MIGHT be taking a gamble with this title.
I enjoy both of these narrators, and while I did get hooked (like many others out there) on titles featuring Andi Arndt and Sebastian York...I have to say that I JUST NEED A BREAK from the two. But Savannah Peachwood I have listened to multiple titles with her and I'm glad to have other narrators that are VERY good as well. That being said...Sebastian's narration was perfect in this title, and his voice was not overly featured throughout.
I started this title late yesterday afternoon, fell asleep with my earbuds in listening...then woke at 2:45AM this morning to it still playing, and I had to back it up numerous chapters and only stopped listening to take my shower, then jump right back on board. I honestly couldnt get enough! And just when you think you might have things figured out...something new and suspenseful occurs and you cant be sure if its love or death or both.

River Wild

Ok going in I wasn’t sure I was going to even get pasted those first few minutes. The subject matter is heavy and had my stomach tied in knots. I loved the narration Sebastian does amazing work. Him as a terrified little boy had shivers going up my arms.

That being said it got lighter as the book goes on the past of both the characters does come into play but I guess for me I wanted something more from Carrie. You would have thought 7 years of all she endured she wouldn’t be able to just get over it. I mean she has a few things come to give her flashbacks if you even can call them that. I don’t know it just felt so very one-sided.

I mean most of the book is in her pov so you kind of expect her past which was so horrific to have more of an effect.

Overall I am glad I kept with it and finished.

Wild for River and Carrie

When I started this I wasn't really sure about it. I do like books that have guys that have some sort of depth and River definitely had that. Watching the forever optimistic Carrie slowly win over the pessimistic River was addictive. I couldn't stop listening.

The way the relationships starts and how it turns to something else was intriguing. I have found other stories like this a bit annoying and drag on, but I listened to this all night and didn't want to miss anything. The way she was able to slowly become part of his life was good and not at all predictable, I thought anyway. I found it refreshing how it wasn't all smooth sailing. I loved how much River was interested in her pregnancy.

I'm not always a fan of Savannah Peachwood, but after a while, I didn't think about it and just let her tell me about Carrie. Sebastian York was perfect for River, though most of the story was told through Carrie's voice.

It was a great listen, and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I know it will be one I will listen to again.

Dark romance. 1POV. HEA. Standalone.

⚠️Trigger warning for spousal abuse and child rape.

This is a sizzling dark/neighbors/enemies-to-lovers romance. It was an emotional listen but very good. It’s a slow burn and I was pretty sad bc there was only one “sexy time” with the main characters. There is a good HEA.

🤭My cranky comments-spoiler:
I’m sorry but if my husband was a dirty cop that beat and rapped me, AND I was pregnant with his baby... I would have taken all of his dirty money when I left. Not just 10k. I would have donated the money to charity instead of leaving it with him.

A RIVER OF FEELS

This book really does have so many feels and, right from the start in the Prologue, your heart breaks for eight year old River.. and for what tragedy follows in his life. Your heart also breaks for Annie and what she was forced to endure throughout her 7 year abusive marriage to Neil. When Annie finds out that she’s pregnant, she needs to run, to escape her abusive violent cop husband because she is fearful of what he might do to punish her or the baby. Destiny takes Annie (..now a redheaded Carrie) to Canyon Lake Texas.. which is where she first meets her droolworthy but annoying neighbor River.

Carrie and River are opposites in every way.. their first encounter doesn’t go well.. nor does their second or third clashes. Carrie doesn’t swear, she’s happy, friendly and tries to make the best of her situation.. however, loner River is rude, swears, doesn’t speak much and doesn’t like anybody. Although the chemistry is there between them, initially it’s intense verbal volleyball for a while.. and their rocky road to happiness will have cracks, bumps, dead ends and some uncharted terrain to overcome if they want to see the bright lights of a HEA.

Worth a credit? YES. It’s not my first romance rodeo with Samantha Towle.. and it won’t be my last either - because over and over again her characters, her plots and her stories have ensnared, entwined and entertained me. This has good character growth as both Carrie and River find the courage to slowly transform, forgive themselves and heal each other from the dark days of their pasts. In this slow burn, where enemies become friends who become lovers, there’s a nice balance of feels, a bit of angst and drama, strength and forgiveness, laughter and loyalty, sighs and sweetness.. and a beautiful ending. There are splashes of River’s past then present in chapters excellently narrated (of course) by Sebastian.. and Savannah did a fantastic job with the rest. Warning: possible triggers of child and domestic abuse.

Carrie and River

Mostly loved the book. Narrators were terrific. Just wish a few things had happened to make the story more plausible. As a survivor myself, I was not pleased with Carrie's "escape ". Too sloppy, considering that her husband was a cop. Holes all over that make me ask, Samantha, do you think your readers are idiots?
However, thanks for addressing the evil out there . And she did a fantastic job portraying the destructive nature of child molestation. Well done. No fault there.
A really good read.

Take the chance, you won't regret it!!

I waffled back and forth on whether to get this audiobook or not. They're pricier than ebooks and taking chances on authors that are new to you is a bit harder in the audio world. However, I could not be happier that I jumped in after days and days of lustig after the cover and reading the synopsis. I dove into the story Saturday morning when my husband and daughter went fishing. I finished later that day. I couldn't stop listening.

Samantha Towle write a story that is so typical in our world. Both River and Kerry's stories are ones that will strike a cord... a sad, hurtful cord. I will mention that if you have difficulties reading/listening to abuse of children and domestic abuse than tread carefully here. There are some triggers. However, it isn't super graphic and does set the stage for the story. This could be so many people's story and I think it should be shared.

You know when people say... this book has all the feels? Well, River Wild certainly covers that saying! It's packed full of every emotion and I had to hold on. One minute my heart was breaking for a child his choices being taken away and a woman who had her rights ripped right from her, the next I was so filled with hope and determination, to righteousness indignation, to hooting out with laughter (I was almost shocked with my barks of laughter), to a heat level that sky-rocketed, to this sweet and happy feeling, then I was flabbergasted and hurting, only to be left crying again with a satisfaction I haven't felt in a long time over a book. My feelings were everywhere and the only way I can liken it is to a rollercoaster.

The narrators were perfection. Those feelings I just talked about were showcased perfectly by the emotions and inflections in Sebastian York and Savannah Peachwood's voices. These two are just so pure together. The seem to portray the heartbreak of the characters beyond what I'd imagine. I really can't recommend this audiobook more... every area of it is 5 stars!
