The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

In this grand poetic vision of the universe, Lawrence Krauss tells the dramatic story of the discovery of the hidden world that underlies reality - and our place within it. Reality is not what you think or sense - it’s weird, wild, and counterintuitive, and its inner workings seem at least as implausible as the idea that something can come from nothing. With his trademark wit and accessible style, Krauss leads us to realms so small that they are invisible to microscopes, to the birth and rebirth of light, and into the natural forces that govern our existence.

Description
This program includes a prologue and epilogue read by the author.
From New York Times culture reporter Dave Itzkoff comes the definitive audiobook biography of Robin Williams - a compelling portrait of one of America’s most beloved and misunderstood entertainers.
From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed.
But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt, which he drew upon in his comedy and in celebrated films like Dead Poets Society; Good Morning, Vietnam; The Fisher King; Aladdin; and Mrs. Doubtfire, where he showcased his limitless gift for improvisation to bring to life a wide range of characters. And in Good Will Hunting he gave an intense and controlled performance that revealed the true range of his talent.
Itzkoff also shows how Williams struggled mightily with addiction and depression - topics he discussed openly while performing and during interviews - and with a debilitating condition at the end of his life that affected him in ways his fans never knew. Drawing on more than a hundred original interviews with family, friends, and colleagues as well as extensive archival research, Robin is a fresh and original look at a man whose work touched so many lives.

Not quite what I expected
I purchased this audio book since I am very fascinated by Robin's character and I wanted to know more about his life and how he got where he got. This book is good if you just want to know a sequence of his life events, marriages, kids, divorces, moves, etc. However, it moves on the surface and does not go into much depth. It was almost as if the writer only pasted together what was published in papers and magazines on Robin, with a lot of quotes from Robin's interviews here and there. Some details presented were unnecessary. For instance two chapters at the end of the book were about legal fights of the family on his assets after his death which had nothing to do with Robin and was somehow demeaning for such a cherished character! It's really sad that we can't yet really know deeper than this book about Robin. He deserves to be known better! #Audible1

Left me feeling like I knew him personally
Dave Itzkoff provides just the right amount of detail and balance in this biography of a modest, loving, generous genius. Robin had time for every fan and treated everyone with kindness and respect. Of dozens of biographies I have read, this is the only one that left me cheering at the subject's successes and wincing at his failures. Itzkoff's sensitive description of Robin's final decline and death made me feel like I had lost a friend -- a level of intimacy that reflects a truly great biography.

I never know before I read a celeb bio if it's going to be like an Entertainment Tonight expose with unreliable sources for interviews and quotes etc...
it is kind of a crap shoot.

Appreciating a beautiful but flawed human being
As someone who enjoyed Robin William's work, I never earlier had an appreciation for his struggles, demons and life's challenges. This book is very well narrated and captures some of Robin's frantic mania so well that it sounds like Robin himself.
I now have an increased appreciation for Robin, not just as an artist, but as a very special human being who will be remembered (and mourned) for a long time to come.

Oh Robin...
I thought this book did a great job at letting us into the man that was Robin Williams. I grew up watching his films (am I one of the handful of people that actually like Popeye?) and I never realized how many "losses" he went through in his career. I will say that I felt sad the whole time listening to this book because obviously, we all know how it ends.
I do WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the review that brings up the narrator saying Marin wrong. It really irritated me every time I heard it. It's MAH-RIN, not MARE-IN.
Aside from that one quip and that I think some of the transitions between Robin's life/movies could've been better, overall it was a great purchase for me!

Disappointing but worth a read
This book is both terrific and disappointing. It is told very much from the perspective of someone looking in. A great recollection of many parts of Robin’s life, career and family. But, it never explores anything from a psychological or creative perspective. This is the key to this great man and any work omitting this is doing a disservice to the reader.
Also, Robin’s suicide affected the world immensely. But, the author has no perspective and presents nothing or no one familiar with suicide. His treatment of suicide is shallow and inaccurate.
Also, the impersonations of Robin are unnecessary.
All in all a decent read and one worthwhile for fans of Robin Williams

Missing Robin all over again
Superb job! This biography truly brought all the facets of Robin Williams’ life out on display, where those of us who’ve admired and even “loved” Robin Williams over the years could pick them up adoringly, like some of his most cherished toy soldiers, look at them, marvel, and respectfully return them to their rightful places.
David Itzcoff’s portrayal of Robin captured the man, the father, the husband, the comedian, actor, and philanthropist as best one can possibly ever capture an ephemeral being. He made me feel Robin Williams’ presence all over again, and made me miss him all the more. If only by our will we could have created another ending...
Thank you, Mr. Itzkoff, for bringing him back to us all one more time.
