À propos de cet audio

In the wake of Operation Desert Storm, a defecting Iraqi scientist has revealed Saddam Hussein's horrifying plans for a devastating counter strike against his enemies...and the world.

With no time to spare, American forces must remobilize to locate and neutralize the underground laboratory where a lethal super-virus is ready to be unleashed. But an eleventh-hour disaster thrusts the entire mission into the hands of two Air Force comrades, Colonel Will Westerman and Reserve Colonel-turned-commercial pilot Doug Harris. Flying into the heart of Iraqi power, they must depend on both their skills and each other as never before in order to complete a mission that may be a suicide run.

This John J. Vance Technothriller has a thought-provoking - if somewhat dated - overall plot (post-Desert Storm Iraq is preparing to unleash a bioengineered virus on the world.. and a team of coalition pilots/soldiers and an Iraqi defector respond). The scenario is plausible, the action is adequately-scripted, and the vocabulary/prose is capable.
Unfortunately - in his hunt for authenticity - Nance buries the story in details. I don't need to know the dynamics of ailerons during an emergency landing to think the "save-the-world" tale is realistic, for example. I'm not a pilot. I don't care about windshear-on-takeoff and mid-air-refueling protocols (the minutiae just distracted me).

As to presentation: Reader Brian Emerson betrays occasional disinterest - obviously reading a text sitting open on his lap - but turns in a creditable performance overall.

In toto, 'Scorpion Strike' merits 6 stars out of 10. I suspect that Vance is a better author than this book suggests. It was a reasonable listen as a 'Plus' offering.. but better options beckon for your Credit.

Great Concept. Too Technical.

If you are a military and aviation maniac and delight into the associated jargons, this is for you. If you only wish to hear a good thriller, the overwhelming abondance of technical details and lingo will become boring long before you finish… it killed my interest way before the end. Other books from Mr. Nance are much more palatable. The narrator is ok.
