À propos de cet audio

A cold-case murder, a grisly discovery, and a viper’s nest of resentment, betrayal, and dirty secrets converge in this mystery perfect for fans of Kathy Reichs and Jayne Ann Krentz.

It’s been 12 years since Sandi Parkman went missing after being dropped off at home by her schoolmate, Nick Larson, now the Sheriff of Freeport, Michigan. When a construction crew unearths Sandi’s bones - along with Nick’s letterman jacket and one of his hairs - Nick becomes suspect number one in the murder.

Dr. Emily Hartford, the daughter of Freeport’s medical examiner, is called in to investigate, but the case is about to get personal. Nick was Emily’s high school love, and now she has to either clear his name - or contend that he’s the killer. As she delves into the case, a host of other suspects emerge: a coterie of Nick’s jock friends from high school; Sandi’s sister, Tiffani, now a dancer at a local strip club; and James VanDerMuellen, a trust funder who recently returned to Freeport.

As the autumn skies darken over Freeport and the holiday season looms, Emily must sift through more than Sandi’s brittle bones to solve the case. Can she exonerate Nick - and rekindle their long-smoldering romance? The race is on to find the truth.

It's clear the author has a lot of experience in this world, her storytelling is so accurate and believable, I often have to remind myself that it's fiction. She works within the limitations of real life crime solving, none of this, the test results came back in an hour! Of course, there are some convenient characters that help out.

I really love how 3 dimensional the female character is. She's not sure of her love interest. She's not sure of her career path. Just when she gets comfortable with the idea of one, the run gets pulled out from under her. She's got a lot of options, but at the same time there's a lot of FOMO and anxiety around them. I found that very relatable and it made me connect with the character more.

I am really enjoying this series, and I can't wait for the next installment. The narrator is also very good.

Eager for more

You envision with delight and lovely description where a small town brings added scenery and depth to the story line. I’m Thankful for the sequel and truly enjoying the development of each leading character. The narrator is fabulous with her soothing tone and suiting the character beautifully. The ending begs for more leaving too much open to end here slightly disappointed! Much more left to develop the characters story and where you could lead into many varied story lines. Don’t quit now, please take us on the path—so many ways to keep the journey twisting to a proper ending.

Picturesque quaint small town…

I really enjoyed the first novel of the series, it was very interesting and credible. This is the second book and as much as I really loved the first one this one is just okay. I think there’s too much unrealistic events surrounding Emily. Still in school/residency with so many incredible job offers it’s tiresome really and totally unnecessary. It’s making me roll my eyes.. I don’t think I would go further in reading a third book.

Love the small town mystery
