I think this was good. It surprised me once near the beginning of the story which was very satisfying and then continued fairly predictably but a good portrait of the plight of ladies post civil war. I wonder if the narrator added a slightly wimpy quality that the author may not have intended but the narrator was definitely not off putting the way some are.
