A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Description
From Nora Roberts comes the #1 New York Times bestseller Shelter in Place (June 2018) - a powerful tale of heart, heroism...and propulsive suspense.
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video-game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.
The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, helplessly clutching her cell phone - until she finally found a way to pour the emotions of that night into her art.
But one person wasn’t satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.
From the author of Year One and Come Sundown, Shelter in Place blends propulsive suspense, a cast of vivid characters, and intimate psychological insight in a rich, exciting listen.

Utterly incredible
Nora Roberts has written a truly impressive work of fiction in "Shelter in Place". I can only imagine the research that went into creating the exquisite details of each character's experiences. As I listened I found myself nodding in agreement, smiling and even laughing, and sometimes had to stop and breathe as my eyes filled with tears.
Shelter in Place is not primarily a romance novel. In fact, the romantic couple doesn't even meet until the second half of the story. Reid and Simone are both fully developed individuals with very different experiences, but the together with a thread. It is an exploration of the mind of a female serial killer. it is also a deep and moving look into the impact of catastrophic trauma - a mall shooting - on the lives of survivors and their families.
We live in a age where news of mass shootings in schools and other places has become almost commonplace. We forget quickly, move on with our lives, with the news cycle, with "business as usual". As I listened to this beautifully read story I thought about the families of Columbine, of L'école Polytechnique, of Sandy Hook, of so many others I can't actually recall their names. The ripples continue. Gun violence impacts us all. The societal trauma eventually reaches everyone, and the fear becomes part of our collective memory.
This book takes no position politically, and doesn't need to. it's much more than a work of fiction. it is a tribute to survival, and a joyous celebration of life.

Nora Never Disappoints
Nora Roberts' stand alone books are always a treat, and this one was especially so. While difficult to get through the violence at the beginning of the story, it was necessary in order to set the stage for a powerful process of healing and reconciliation. I loved it. The narration by January LaVoy was stunning, by the way. #Audible1

Loved this book!
Read a Nora Roberts book years ago and was disappointed, but this one sounded good. And that it was. I loved the characters and how, both they and their relationships grew. A great who dunnit with a touch of romance, and a sexy hero with a lot of nice and just the right amount of naughty.

Solid experience
Despite being full of cliches and coincidences that make events seem a little too contrived, I really enjoyed listening to Shelter in Place. The early depiction of the mass shooting mostly seemed real, though, thinking back on how everything unfolded left me with a few lingering questions that I only had minimal issues putting aside. The rest of the story was largely predictable, but written and performed well enough to keep me engaged with the characters.

Excellent book - great performance!
I have been a Nora Roberts fan for many years. This is by far my favourite book to date. You are drawn in from the very beginning, which could have been pulled from the headlines of any newspaper. The narrator is also amazing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. I was sad when the book ended!! #Audible1

The Nora I love is back!!
The last few Nora Roberts were not what I like to read so, I didn’t. I believe Nora stated if the book is something you don’t like, don’t read it—so I didn’t. It was hard! I missed Nora.
But the Nora I love is back with “Shelter in Place!”
This book is traditional Nora Roberts! No end of the world, no magic, just a great romantic suspense! The first part with shooting up the mall and movie theater was hard to read; but so much will be lost if you skip it. That being said: I highly recommend this book. It will be a book that I will be listening to again and again!!

Captivating!
I purchased this audible book on a quick whim as I boarded a plane for vacation realizing I only had non-fiction books on my phone. It was a suggested new release title and it did not disappoint!!! Every moment I could take, i was listening to the book. It definitely kept my attention and it was very well written!! I’ve read a few other Nora Roberts books but I can say that this is my favorite!
Is it weird that I kinda “miss” CC and wish she was a real life person?! Haha (once you listen to the book, you’ll understand 😉)

A great story line.
The title had me worried that it would be to dark of a story at this time in our world. It was a great read with lots of depth and great interaction. Tragedy can lead to growth and different pathways. I will re-listen to see what I missed the first time through.

was really surprised
stopped buying Nora Roberts' books awhile ago because they were all too uniform and cookie cutter with just character names being different. This still was a bit in the too familiar but it was also unique and I listened in one day. I like how she used all these shootings and incorporated them into a story. Refreshing new story that is similar in some elements to the Three Sisters Island Trilogy which is my favorite work by her (Dance Upon the Air, Heaven and Earth and Face the Fire). Get this book!

LOVED. THIS. STORY. Espy with everything going on in America today. I honestly haven't listened to a NR book since The Witness (my previous NR fave), but this one definitely reminded me of how much I love her! The character development was great with every character, all the way down to the dog! Cici and Reed were def my faves tho. The way he always joked about the 2 of them getting together if she ever gave him a chance made me laugh everytime. Great work Nora!!

Good story but....
The story line was really good hard to stop listening. My only complaint is the language I just don’t understand why with such a good story it has to have so much language. I can bear some but this was every other sentence which took some of the enjoyment away for me.
