Description
Diane Benscoter grew up in the heartland of America in a small Nebraska town with a loving family. At 17, motivated by her idealism and inspired by the lyrics of her favorite songs, she left home in search of a way to end war. She found easy answers to life's hard questions in the form of a religious cult commonly known as the Moonies. In Shoes of a Servant Benscoter weaves a gripping story of her servitude in the cult, the deprogramming staged by her desperate family, and her subsequent involvement in the underground world of deprogramming, culminating in her arrest for kidnapping. Often humorous and always heartbreaking, Benscoter's story carries the reader on a journey into the world of mental manipulation, providing compelling insight on how human vulnerabilities open the door for extremism.

Learning from manipulation
Diane delivers her amazing experience with candor and much detail. Shows how easily anyone can get enmeshed in a cult and how to gain discernment to exit and live an enriched life.

Ways of the Cult Life
I purchased this book thinking it would be as good as Captive, a mother fighting to get her daughter from a cult. This book was different yet I found it interesting and some things in the book brought familiarity and enlightenment.
I could relate being in a cult some years back. Many similarities in this book of the stages I was involved in. But, I was a rebel and became vocal after seeing and experiencing the tactics and how they were doing more than attempting to brainwash.
I was amazed at the various professional participants involved. After my departure, they tried calling me. It was evil and though I was a young Christian, their logic made absolutely no sense. Jesus Christ is Lord and his going to the cross cleared the way for all mankind. I believe the Bible...period.
In closing, I will say that I wanted to read the book solely for content. The author (no offense) carried a depressing and sad tone. If planning to reissue the book, please pay someone else to do the honors.

Moving story
Would you consider the audio edition of Shoes of a Servant to be better than the print version?
A moving story - well read and heartbreaking. Linking to current events and other similar situations was interesting and well drawn out.
