Park ranger Kyler Clemons had loved the vibe and the beach of Mustang Island. Getting caught with her boss’ wife, however, got her transferred to the wild and remote Davis Mountains State Park - in the middle of nowhere. Now after four years, she’s forgotten about the beach and has embraced the mountain life, feeling like a local. She hangs out at the Cottonwood Creek Bar and Grill. She watches football with Mark Walton. She’s taken up birdwatching and stargazing. She is perfectly content. No stress. No drama. And no desire to date. Then Lexie Walton waltzes into her life.

Jacqueline Keys was ostracized from her small hometown of Pine Springs, Texas, when she was 17, sent away because she was gay. Fifteen years later - long after she'd hitch-hiked to Los Angeles, put herself through college, and had written her first best seller - Jacqueline is persuaded to go back to the tiny town of Pine Springs after her father's death. The quick trip she'd envisioned for the funeral turns into weeks as she learns her father's business is suddenly hers to manage. And she is also again face-to-face with the woman who, as a teen, had been Jackie's first crush.

Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Description
Chris McKenna gladly escaped the crowds of Yosemite to work as the new search and rescue in tiny Sierra City, nestled just west of Lake Tahoe. A loner by nature, she didn't mind the seclusion of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Jessie Stone, a successful but reclusive writer, is haunted by memories of her childhood and finally returns to Sierra City after 16 years to confront her past....
Can the odd assortment of residents of this small mountain town bring the two of them together? Or will it be Annie Stone, a woman Chris has grown to admire and a woman Jessie still feels hatred for, who has the power to bind the two?
Through lies and deception, Chris and Jessie each struggle to deny the growing attraction that could brighten both their lives....

VERY Disappointed!
Usually a big fan of Gerri Hill but I was completely disappointed by this book. I feel that writers have a responsibility when tackling the subject matter that Hill does in this book. I think that the author handles this subject in a completely haphazard and poorly researched way. ***SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS*** Sexual abuse is not just a plot point to manipulate your character's actions. The way Hill dealt with Jessy's abuse was so disrespectful. This woman was raped by her father for 6-7 years while her mother stood by and did nothing. The author excuses the mother's behavior by saying she was scared but stuck around in case her daughter ever came to her to ask for help. She saw the father groom the daughter for 10 years, knew the father's interest was "unnatural" but she did nothing. Just waited in case the daughter should come to her. The author then uses Chris to basically tell Jessy that her mother is great and she was bad for leaving as soon as she became an adult. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Chris and Jessy's mother have this whole loving relationship and treat Jessy as though she's done something wrong by leaving and is wrong to not want to just go live with her mother again when she comes back to town. It's all about the mother's POV, while Jessy is the 1 who was raped for 6-7 years, without her mother EVER intervening. WTF?!?! Putting sexual abuse into a romance novel is pretty risky thing to do. Handling it the way Hill does is just irresponsible and does actual harm to anyone who's ever dealt with this. In the future I would ask that the author does more research and is more empathetic towards the victim of the abuse, if she ever plans on writing on this matter again,

Good, not great
I will never pass up a Gerri Hill-Abby Craden collaboration and I pre-ordered this as soon as I could. This duo has had so many home runs, however, this wasn’t one of them, in my humble opinion. The story was superficial, and felt rushed considering the heavy subject matter. And the chemistry between the two MC’s is not what I’m used to from Hill. The charged dialogue and delicious tension that usually exists seemed lacking here. This hasn’t ruined me for her in any way; this one just wasn’t a favorite. Still worth a credit though. Abby Craden is always brilliant and this performance is no exception, although there were a few lines of dialogue where the MC’s voices got switched; I think during the first sex scene. Not a big deal really, just something I noticed. Regardless, when the next Hill-Craden collaboration comes out, I’ll still be hitting that pre-order button. Side note: There are a couple of Gerri Hill audibles that I haven’t been able to bring myself to listen to b/c they were not narrated by Abby Craden. I probably will eventually but I truly hope that Hill sticks with Craden for all future narrations. Happy Reading!!

Gerri Hill and Abby Craden Together Again!
This was a great listen. I love when Gerri Hill takes us on an outdoorsy adventure. Ha. this book takes place in Sierra City, where there is skiing, fishing, hiking, etc. the one main lady is a park ranger who is fairly new to town. she reads murder mystery books by a sexy author she learns grew up in Sierra City. they meet, and the dialogue was witty and flirty. The writer is in town to talk to estranged mother who happens to be friends with the new, beautiful park ranger. there are dark moments, but I loved the whole story. AC! could listen to you all day and night

Wow !
When I don’t know which book to listen too, I always know that a Gerri Hill book narrated by Abby Craden will be a hit, and it is always true. I loved this book... loved the characters, would have loved to know more about Annie, drama was kept low enough but not too low which was good, and there was nothing strange or not having sense in this book. Excellent.

Rescue The Heart.
Chris McKenna moves from Yosemite to Sierra City as a forest service rescue ranger. There she reunites with her mentor. Jesse Stone is a writer of dark novels in which the mother always dies a horrible death. Jesse comes home to reunite with her mother to try to get her memories back. Can the healing power of the mountains find the both? Erotic romance. Great performance. Recommend.

Great listen
Gerri Hill and Abby Craden are a great author, narrator duo. I’m so glad G Hill is fortune to have A Craden as narrator on all her books. The author writes an intriguing story with enough romance for satisfaction. I was completely surprised with the final few lines of the epilogue. I didn’t expect an answer to the unasked question at the center of the story. Good work!

loved it, a lot of plot borrowing from Stephen Kings Delores Claiborne, but nevertheless well written and different from the usual pot boiler lesbian romances. highly recommend !!
