À propos de cet audio

A haunting crime novel of two sisters - one has vanished, the other is behind bars....

Snow Delaney was born a generation and a world away from her sister, Agnes.

Until recently, neither even knew of the other's existence. They came together only for the reading of their father's will - when Snow discovered, to her horror, that she was not the sole beneficiary of his large estate.

Now Snow is in prison and Agnes is missing, disappeared in the eerie red dust that blanketed Sydney from dawn on September 23, 2009.

With no other family left, Snow turns to crime journalist Jack Fawcett, protesting her innocence in a series of defiant letters from prison. Has she been unfairly judged? Or will Jack's own research reveal a story even more shocking than the one Snow wants to tell?

Great book but ending was disappointing. Hilarious in some spots, others horrific. Voice of Snow was awesome.

Great book ending was disappointing.

I’d have liked a clearer and finished ending, but this was a great listen. The back and forth between the journalist and Snow was extremely well done and very entertaining. You are engaged from the very beginning. And excellent performance and narration.

Great listen!

It was a good story till 3/4 way through and then it took this weird sinister turn ending in a disappointing disaster.

This Caroline Overington narrative follows the story of a British woman ('Agnes') - seperated from her parents during WWII and reacquainted with an Australian long-lost sister ('Snow') after their parents die.. only to disappear into an outback sandstorm. It morphs into a story about a mass child abuse case.
Overington masterfully drops revelations - telling the story through letters from Snow sitting in jail to a reporter covering the story & commentary from the reporter as he assists Agnes's family in their search for their mom. The out-of-the-headlines arrest & trial that follows beggars disbelief. The book is well-conceived and well-conducted.. but lacks in action for hours and hours. In fact, nothing really happens except for character development for at least 80% of the book.. then hurtles at breakneck speed (the pacing is dreadful).

Fortuitously for audiobook aficionados: Audible Studios Inc. cast Hazem Shammas & Mantsholgane Maile to read the book. The female narrator is slightly more effective, but this Aussie-read Australian story is an above-average listening product.

Altogether, 'Sisters Of Mercy' merits 6.5 stars out of 10. Despite some straight-up boring storytelling elements followed by bewildering rapid-fire events, I found myself captivated by the exposition. If you can get this book off of the 'Plus' menu, do not hesitate - it was a workable distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons. If they ask for a Credit, keep browsing.

[Note: The author's reluctance to use any expletives frequently took me out of the story. Portraying truly sketchy people as oddly chaste was baffling]

Engrossing Tale

An incredibly tragic story, not what I expected from preview but couldn’t put it down.
