Alone. Surrounded by monsters. Time to fight his way up the food chain.

In the aftermath of an unprecedented magical disaster, Edge wakes up in a monster-infested wilderness, standing on the bottom of the food chain. But he won’t be there for long.

After finding a unique core known as Skill-Eater, Edge gains the power to steal the skills of monsters, men, and beasts, and a chance to battle his way up to the top.

It seems that his luck has finally changed, although he will soon learn that power never comes without a price.

Experience an action packed LitRPG adventure set in a world where artifacts known as Cores let their bearers wield the planet’s magic, and where Skills grant superhuman abilities and kaiju roam the wilds. It's perfect for fans of Solo Leveling, The Primal Hunter, and 1% Lifesteal!

I think the premise is good. the start was even better. but it just slowed way down. I think you should look at other books similar to this to fix it. like hell difficult tutorial or savage awakening

Great start, slow finish

The first 1/3 of the book is very rough - it’s pretty much non-stop battles that always have the same cliche flow i.e. MC goes up against enemies above his league -> MC gets beaten down to his “last breath” (which lasts a long time for some reason) -> MC gains some powerful ability to turn the tables. When the cliche is repeated so many times, sometimes in a single battle, it makes the story cringy instead of exciting.

There is also the problem that the author put too much exposition in the middle of battles e.g. MC teleports behind the enemy, instead of just stabbing them, the book has to spend a large paragraph explaining how MC’s skill works and why it’s a good idea to use it before MC makes a move. It drags fight scenes a lot longer than needed.

However, the book is visibly improving over its course - the "last-second" clutches are still there, but they are MC's existing skill combos + plans instead of luck, and the in-battle exposition got tuned down (not enough though), so I won’t be too harsh with the rating.

New author overusing cliche plot device

writing style was good, characters felt natural. narration was well done.

pacing felt a little slow. not sure how to explain it other than it lacked that little bit of oomph to really grab my attention.

still good, still worth picking up. looking forward to the next one.

pretty decent
