Description

The entrepreneur, angel investor, and bestselling author of Choose Yourself busts the 10,000-hour rule of achieving mastery, offering a new mindset and dozens of techniques that will inspire any professional—no matter their age or managerial level—to pursue their passions and quickly acquire the skills they need to succeed and achieve their dreams.

We live in a hierarchical world where experience has traditionally been the key to promotion. But that period is over! Straight, clear-cut career trajectories no longer exist. Industries disappear, job descriptions change, and people's interests and passions evolve. The key to riding this wave, entrepreneur James Altucher advises, is to constantly be curious about what's next, to be comfortable with uncertainty so you can keep navigating the rough waters ahead, and most importantly, to pursue the things that interest you.

In Skip the Line, he reveals how he went from struggling and depressed to making his personal, financial, and creative dreams come true, despite—and perhaps due to—his many failures along the way. Altucher combines his personal story with concrete—and unorthodox—insights that work. But Skip the Line isn't about hacks and shortcuts—it's about transforming the way you think, work, and live, letting your interests guide your learning, time, and resources. It's about allowing yourself to do what comes naturally; the more you do what you love, the better you do it. While showing you how to approach change and crisis, Altucher gives you tools to help easily execute ideas, become an expert negotiator, attract the attention of those around you, scale promising ideas, and improve leadership—all of which will catapult you higher than you ever thought possible and at a speed that everyone will tell you is impossible.

Fantastic

Funny, pointed, amazing advice. So much good stuff. Highly recommend also getting the hard copy book and reading along while listening. James’ passion lifts off the pages. I will be reading this again and again!

Implemented and succeeded!

For about a year now I have been listening to the James Altucher podcast, this book has summed up some of the best points he has made around how to accelerate yourself past your “peers”. I dropped out of university, travelled the world, took an entry level position and one year later I have skipped the line to what most would consider a 10 year plan in the finance industry. Many thanks to James and the hosts he brings on.

Cheers.

Just do the 10,000 hours.

Despite his assertion that people schould eschew the Gladwell method, Altucher easily spends 10,000 hours each time he jumps from career to career, executing his experiments, and working to add 1% value to his practice sessions.

If he would settle down, pick a career and apply the 10,000 hours needed to gain proficiency or expertise he wouldn't have lost millions of dollars time and again over a couple of decades.

Skipping the line means nothing if you have to start over every three to five years, with zero dollars to show for your past "experiments."

I think Altucher has ADHD and would benefit just as much from medication as from his 1% exercises.

Also, he's a teriible, halting, uneven narrator and he should hire somebody to read his books in a way that doesn't constantly jolt the listener out of the lesson.

I returned the book out of frustration.

Interesting from beginning to end

I think that I simultaneously really like and really dislike James Altucher. And that is what makes his books worth listening to. He is candid, genuine, and not cliche.

Some of this material is recycled, and some of it he repeats in multiple places, but overall an interesting listen, and the summary list at the end was very good. And oddly sentimental for Altucher.

I can’t imagine anyone but him narrating the book as it is his words and his voice. I wouldn’t want to hear him narrate anyone else’s books, but I wouldn’t want anyone else to narrate his because it wouldn’t be as genuine.

When you overthink, James teaches you how to Do

This book found me in the midst of a massive life change. Sleep nights, great uncertainty and fear have evolved into what I would now call directional hope after reading Skip the Line. James does an great job at trimming the fat and delivering actionable advice on how to get the ball moving and keep it moving.

Thank you James!

Excellent actionable advice. Read by the author.

Loved the advice to make a list if ideas every day. Many other very good tips that you can immediately put into practice. The author read the book himself and didn't edit out the stops/starts, stutters, mistakes. Very authentic, seemed like a conversation more than having someone read a book to me.

I always enjoy his attitude and knowledge

His view of the way things are and what can be done about them is inspiring. A down to earth approach to dealing with life and the BS that surrounds achieving goals, he has even helped me discover goals I am working towards.
Recommend to everyone of any age!
