I'm a great fan of the Irving story and the Headless Horseman character. I've always wanted to bring that tale into a modern fantasy setting, but there's no point now. Richard Gleaves has created the best possible version of a modern Sleepy Hollow.

The characters are memorable and unique, the setting is creepy and gothic, and the haunts - when they come - are pretty chilling for this kind of YA fiction.

I was a little disappointed there wasn't more overtly supernatural stuff in this book. A lot of the story focuses on setting up the characters and the world, as this is clearly part one of a three-part story, and it only gets really spooky towards the end.

An idea so good I wish I'd thought of it

It started off slow, but the story really picked up a quarter of the way through. The reader was EXCELLENT. Nice pacing and great tone. I'm looking forward to hearing the next book!
