This Neal Stephenson tale is so Gibson-esque that the cyberpunk vibes ooze from it. On the other hand, the author weaves his plot around incredibly cerebral themes like Ancient Sumerian Myth and the mystic power of language.
Also singular: Stephenson's approach is quirky - almost tongue-in-cheek. The roller-coaster ride of samurai/ninja action, silliness (Mafia-run Pizza Delivery businesses that murder employees if they're 30 minutes late, for example), and geeky GameLit plot elements are captivating. I can honestly say that I've never read anything like it.

As to presentation: Audible Studios Inc. includes much appreciated sound effect wipes between scenes that are specific (a distinctive "whoosh" when the story shifts to the Metaverse, for example).. which helps keep listeners oriented during this multiple-setting story. On the other hand, they also include annoying musical bumpers/interludes at the ends of chapters that are straight-up jarring. I must say that Jonathan Davis was an excellent choice of reader, though. His diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting are typically commendable, but his often whimsical storytelling tone is pitch-perfect for the frankly weird story. The casting of this project was brilliant.

In toto, I give 'Snow Crash' 9/10 stars. It's cerebral, action-packed, filled with outlandish out-of-nowhere WTF elements, and well worth your time. Spend the Credit.

[Note: Stephenson is a genuine wordsmith.. but his vocabulary is so extensive that you might need to keep a Thesaurus handy. I feel bad for anyone tasked to translate this book into foreign languages]

This is a soft 4 - the world building is awesome, but the ending is a hot mess. It's a shame, because I was loving my time with Hero Protagonist, and Y T, and even Raven.
There's plenty of satire and sword fighting - it's obvious why the book is adored by so many.

I've read several Stephenson novels, and they all feel the same - I have fun, and there's memorable chunks, but they are not my favourites, and I don't really recommend them to others.

Props to Neal for the metaverse, avatars, and encrypted electronic currencies.

If you enjoy The Matrix, Hackers, and MMORPG's, you've likely read Snow Crash, but if you haven't, check it out!!

Only drawback is the varying sound quality, it will swap between high, low, and medium abruptly throughout most chapters.

This book is an example of what makes Neal Stephenson great.

I like the setting and world this takes place in, it's jaded & harsh but also grounded in its own fictional way.

There are some truly badass characters in this book. Hero, YT and Raven are just too cool to ignore.
Just listen to Reason & enjoy the aftermath!

Incredibly prescient! Stephenson basically predicted things like Google Earth and computer assistants like Siri, services unknown when the book was published in 1992

The narrator does the story justice.

Premise is ok, villain gets a hold of a mental virus that can allow him to take over and hero protagonist works to save the day. If you skip the irrelevant history lessons, 15 minutes of toilet paper and similar, was a good listen.
