Very good with lots of twists and turns. Narrator was great too and brought the characters to life. Looking forward to listening to the next episode.

I actually picked up this title after one of my favourite podcasters DNFed it because she said Sherlock Holmes type stories just aren't her cup of tea. (Good Books Lately - really great podcast). Well, pour me a cup because I love Sherlock Holmes. In print, audibles, on TV, movies, you name it, I've consumed it!
I am so happy to have found what I believe is his Scottish equivalent! More than that, Watson is my preferred character and Thomas Llewelyn is just as good as an assistant and narrator of these tales.
I cannot wait to read more in this series!
Also, I loved Antony Ferguson's performance. His voice plus excellent writting will have me questioning whether I listened to this or actually saw it!
If you like any of the great detectives, Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, Father Brown, Patrick Jane, Adrian Monk or Cordelia Cupp - you'll enjoy these stories.
Highly recommend to those who wish that more of Sherlock's cases were written up!

If you love Holmes, you'll love Barker!

A solid Victorian mystery. Llewelyn is a likable protagonist with an interesting backstory. Barker is not quite a Holmes clone, but he is definitely "inspired by." But he's less of a jerk. Which is nice. The secondary characters are well developed, and the canine character is just charming.
The mystery is engaging and believable and I didn’t see the solution coming. I might have to check out more in the series.

If You (as I do) enjoy historical detective-stories such as Sherlock Holmes and Nero Wolfe — and rollicking adventure-stories like Shogun, The Physician, and The Walking Drum… You’ll love this story!

Will Thomas is a new favourite of Mine, and Antony Ferguson the perfect choice for this most-excellent of investigative adventures.
Definitely a must-read!

I enjoy reading mysteries I can't figure out before hand, I didn't guess who it was until right before it happened. I Throughly enjoyed it, and it has a great set of characters I hope to find in the the next book.

Just like an other reviewer mentioned, things only clicked right before the reveal, which is such a nice change with mystery novels. I enjoy all the characters and how unique they seem, but must admit I’m not sure I would’ve enjoyed them as much without the narrator bringing them to life.
I’m hoping I enjoy the 2nd book as much.

loved this story. it was a very different type of detective story. Informative of the life and the time it is set in. Takes you to unexpected places , people, situations.
Antony Ferguson excellent reader. I have heard of Will Thomas but this was the first book of his I have read. looking forward to the next in series.

Some slow parts, but was an entertaining read. I quite liked the main characters. Well written. Worth the read.
