À propos de cet audio

From debut author Maiga Doocy comes the charming tale of an impulsive sorcerer and his curmudgeonly rival as they venture deep into a magical forest in search of a counterspell that can break the curse between them—only to discover that magic might not be the only thing pulling them together.

Leovander Loveage is a master of small magics. He can summon butterflies with a song or turn someone’s hair pink by snapping his fingers. Though such minor charms don’t earn him much respect, anything more elaborate always blows up in his face, and so Leo vowed long ago never to use powerful magic again.

That is, until a mishap with a forbidden spell binds Leo to obey the commands of his longtime rival, Sebastian Grimm. Grimm is Leo’s complete opposite—respected, exceptionally talented, and absolutely insufferable. The only thing they can agree on is that revealing the curse between them would mean the end of their respective magical careers. They need a counterspell, and fast.

Chasing rumors of a powerful sorcerer with a knack for undoing curses, Leo and Grimm enter the Unquiet Wood, a forest infested with murderous monsters and dangerous outlaws alike. To break the curse, they will have to uncover the true depths of Leo’s magic, set aside their long-standing rivalry, and—much to their horror—work together.

Even as an odd spark of attraction flares between them.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"With a vibrantly imagined world and characters that leap off the page, Sorcery and Small Magics positively sparkles with wit and charm. It's a light-hearted tale of friendship, forgiveness, magic and love. Much like Doocy's opposites-attract heroes, Leo and Grimm, this book sings, leaving you spellbound and wanting more."—Julie Leong, author of The Teller of Small Fortunes
"Sorcery and Small Magics smoulders like spell-paper, set aflame by its singular enchanted setting, a spirited violin soundtrack and plenty of charming chaos. The hesitant care that Leo and Grimm show each other as they work to dispel a genuinely terrifying curse is heart-warming."—Sylvie Cathrall, author of A Letter to the Luminous Deep
"As sparkling and delicious as enchanted champagne, Sorcery and Small Magics is full of wit, joy and real heart. I loved it!"—Stephanie Burgis, author of Scales and Sensibility
Sorcery and Small Magics is nothing short of masterful. Leo Lovage could read me the phone book and I’d be delighted, and I would gladly take an arrow for either Leo or Grimm.”—Megan Bannen, author of The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy
"Charming, cheeky and utterly magical."—Davinia Evans, author of Notorious Sorcerer
"Reading Sorcery and Small Magics feels like stepping into the world of the ultimate comfort story. Packed with humor and heart, Doocy's debut had me grinning from ear to ear and giggling the whole way through. This is a cozy, whimsical spin on academia that will give you all the warm fuzzy feels!"
Sydney Shields, author of The Honey Witch

I had read this book prior to listening to the audiobook. I found it as enjoyable to listen to as it was to read. The narrator did a superb job.

Very enjoyable

story is so cute and so many tropes i love but really feels like it’s only starting to amp up. waiting for the sequels!!

The characters in this book are three-dimensional, flawed and endearing human beings. The worldbuilding is fascinating but feels natural, almost sweet at times. I won’t tell you anything about the love story itself, because you deserve to enjoy every word or every sentence as much as I just did.

Can’t believe this is a debut novel

I really enjoyed this light, happy, fun, adventure of a story. I was charmed by the whole thing, the story, the magic, and the 2 mc's, as well as their friends. I can't wait for more of this story, and more by this author. Nicely done!

Absolutely charming

I love this story so much and the VA added so much life to the characters that I ended up listening all the way through twice within a week. However, despite my high praise, the slight editing errors does dampen my listening experience. For example, the second time Leo speaks Sebastian Grimm's name, it is only "-tian Grimm" in the audio. And I would personally prefer that each time a character is cut off by something that the thing that cut them off comes immediately after (instead of putting an awkward second of silence between it) to make the listening experience more immersive.

The narrator is amazing and I really hope he comes back for the other installments of this story as his performance for Leo and Grimm are iconic to me now.

Amazing despite editing errors

Biggest disappointment is that the sequel is not yet available. Excellent world building and unique magic system. The plot pulls at the emotions and kept me in the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.

Fun and engaging world of magic story told with an air that reminded me of discworld

This year I've read about 5 books so far that seem to copy either webtoons, web novels, manga or asian dramas, (that are based from novels), almost like they believe that the stories are not going to be recognized by readers of their novels.Well obviously that's not the case. There's nothing wrong with taking bits of inspiration from elsewhere but bits.of. inspiration. That's the key, not using the entire story and changing a bit, then calling it yours

Another reviewer, Julia, (on Goodreads) details how this story mimics "The Untamed". I agree. I recently rewatched the series and can see the similarities BUT i also see where the differences are, and unfortunately, these differences bring this story down. Most importantly, Leo, he is one of the most unlikable characters. I almost stopped listening close to the beginning of the book. When Grimm opens up and tells him that he's a slow reader, and its the reason it takes him longer to look over the spells and within ten minutes of being told this Leo throws it in his face and makes fun of him. He has no control of his emotions and acts like this two year old throwing tantrums, except he's old enough to drink.

rip off of the Untamed?
