Description
Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear.
It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"
The good news is that in Soundtracks, Acuff offers a proven plan to change overthinking from a super problem into a superpower. When we don't control our thoughts, our thoughts control us. If our days are full of broken soundtracks, thoughts are our worst enemy, holding us back from the things we really want. But the solution to overthinking isn't to stop thinking. The solution is running our brains with better soundtracks. Once we learn how to choose our soundtracks, thoughts become our best friend, propelling us toward our goals.
If you want to tap into the surprising power of overthinking and give your dreams more time and creativity, learn how to DJ the soundtracks that define you. If you can worry, you can wonder. If you can doubt, you can dominate. If you can spin, you can soar.

Jon did it again!
I normally would skip the reviews because I would overthink what to write and not write a thing. This was the simplest review to write. No overthinking.
Pure awesomeness!!!

Easy listen
It’s nice to listen to a book that’s both relatable as well am enjoyable. I am an over thinker and truly loved this book. Many time it made me laugh out loud and still maintained the importance of the topic

Generic self-help book based on popular science
Pretty generic self-help book promoting "change your mindset with this magical formula" idea with a different sauce.
When I've read the word "surprising" in the title, I got curious if the book would be about the actual background music for overthinking, but the only surprise was how disappointingly misleading the book's rating is.
Mindful attention to one's thoughts, positive affirmations, etc. - all of these topics can be found in other books, just without "soundtrack" branding on it. My main complaint could be just that, "you've read all of it everywhere else", and it wouldn't be the reason to give this book such a poor review.
However, like many other authors in this field, Jon Acuff mentions a lot of popular science "research" that doesn't have any scientific background. For example, the "priming" concept, a research made famous by Daniel Kahneman in his book "Thinking, Fast and Slow", that was long proven to be unreproducible, with false results. Yet the author of "Soundtracks" talks about it here, in 2021, as if he, and his editor never heard about Daniel Kahneman himself stating his skepticism towards priming back in 2012 (see https://www.nature.com/news/polopoly_fs/7.6716.1349271308!/suppinfoFile/Kahneman%20Letter.pdf).
Failure to check his facts makes you think what else written in his book has no practical foundation behind it, and based only on personal experiences and anecdote research.
Overall, this could be just a blog post, or podcast episode, the book itself isn't worth of your time or money, in my opinion.
