Description

“When all else fails, the ass end of a carp makes a damn fine weapon.”

Your new favorite monster hunter has arrived! Bubba the Monster Hunter has some competition in this horror-comedy collection from best-selling author duo Gail Z. and Larry N. Martin!

By day, Mark Wojcik can be found elbow-deep in engine grease, making cars and trucks safe for the highway. By night, he can be found traipsing through the wilds of Pennsylvania, making the world safe for humans. He's more than just a mechanic, he's a New Templar Knight. He travels the backroads and byways fighting weresquonks, ningen, selkies, ghosts, and . . . gnomes? Is that gnome . . . naked? (Sigh.)

Season One collects the first four novellas in the Spells, Salt, & Steel series: Spells, Salt, & Steel; Open Season; Deep Trouble; and Close Encounters.

Took a while to get into it

It took me a while to get into this book. The constant definitions of words was very annoying but that trailed off once you got further into the story.
It would be nice if the other books in this series were available.

could have been better

I thought this was going to be different. Each encounter ended quickly and that showed his skill, what I found annoying and tedious, was the constant repetition of how he lost his family. I almost wonder if some or all of these stories were individually added to some anthology so a little information about him is needed.

I found myself getting bored, so after 4 hours I gave up. Up until I gave up, each story was practically the same. He gets called in for something weird, he investigates and decides what is needed in one minute flat, he confronts the thing he needs to banish and a tiny scuffle ensues and he comes out on top and returns home, saddened because his wife left him when he didn't get over the loss of his family and upset and sad because one of the paranormal creatures killed everyone in his family and only he survived. His friends and dog named Devil make him feel better and the loop restarts.

A zombie, a crazy ghost, a troll, a ware-beaver, etc, etc. none of the stories are in-depth and they are over before they begin. The zombie story was funny...A zombie that fishes but as soon as the hunter shows up (thinking it was a ghost) it tries to run for him to eat him but didn't try to eat anyone else that happened upon it previously??? That's a very picky zombie!
